Dallas removed the offensive statues, now looks like it's going into the grocery business to fight crime.

quote:

DALLAS - Dallas plan to buy a grocery store in southern Dallas that has already received millions of dollars in subsidies.

Dallas gave the operator of the Save A Lot $2.8 million as an economic incentive to open in the Highland Hills area since there were no other options for healthy food. But it turns out there is apparently not enough business for the store to survive on its own.

The proposal to buy the store was tucked away in a large agenda item focused on how to provide more social service resources that in turn would help reduce crime.

“When we look at challenging economics in these communities it is tough for grocery stores. Ownership started facing some unintended consequences,” Johnson said.

The store opened in October 2016 after getting the multi-million dollar grant from the city.

And if all they carried was healthy food they would have almost zero sales.

Sav A Lots thrive in the ghetto. If that store can’t make it nobody else has a chance.

I’m sure somebody’s cousin will get rich though.

I have an easy solution for this issue. Just start billing the idiots that came up with this wonderful idea Let THEM pay for it. Until there is direct accountability, this bullshite will never stop.

Dallas has been unhinged for a few years now. This is the product of what Thomas Sowell called ghetto laws. Small businesses flock from places that don't have the protection of police for non violent crimes. Pretty funny how obvious the results are.

Worst part of living in the DFW area. No HEB I really miss having 3 almost brand new HEBs within 10 minutes of my house when I lived in Cypress.

A real HEB or their offshoot brand Market something or the other?

I ask because a year ago I met with HEB's CFO on another matter and he said then they had no plans to come to DFW because of warehouse logistics and penetration.

I would drive to Deep Ellum if it were a real HEB.

Jesus Christ.

These things fail not because the business is racist or doesn’t want to go there as much as there will be far more liabilities than benefits.

Urban grocery stores, even the shittiest ones which will operate anywhere, are loathe to operate in an area where the shoplifting / pilferage aspect is through the roof and the employees are either going to be in on it or will demand exorbitant wages under threats of unionization.

The city of Dallas getting involved here basically means someone is taking care of someone because stock will either walk out the back without being paid for or someone will pull huge salaries to “manage” a failing store which can be subsidized by a city’s budget.
