Need more details.

You arent allowed to pull someone off life support unless the power of attorney grants it, doctors cant just do it because they want to.
Unless he was declared brain dead, which (in Louisiana and most other states at least) means you are legally dead. The major frickup in this case is that they declared the guy brain dead when he really wasn't.

Let this be warning to all about being an organ donor. They will end your life prematurely for lucrative organs. Koodos to this father for standing up against the medical cartel. Remember, organs are no good if someone is dead. Someone has to be alive for them to extract organs. They get away with this by calling someone "brain dead".

Oh man this is crazy to think of. Not sure how accurate it is among the masses, but makes sense in a way..

Makes no sense. "Brain Dead" is not subjective..... it is measurable. ALso, people don't wake up from massive strokes with no deficits and do "fine". Sorry, but this is just too weird for there not to be more to the story.....
This. There are stringent criteria you have to meet in order to declare brain death. If you get a positive result on any of the tests, the patient is NOT brain dead. There is definitely more to this story.

Depends on where you're located.

In Alabama, if two different doctors label a person brain dead, the hospital can remove life support without anybody's permission.
Same in Louisiana.

There was never a bullet in the gun

Only person the dad ever thought about killing was himself

“During that three hours, George squeezed my hand three or four times on command,” said Pickering.

Eventually, following hours of negotiations, a police robot uncovered the curtain Pickering was hiding behind, and he then surrendered peacefully.

Dad was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, but one was later dismissed and the other lessened to a state jail felony.

“This case has always been about a father protecting his son, when his son couldn't protect himself,” Pickering's lawyer Phoebe Smith told Click 2 Houston.

Pickering was given credit for the time served in jail, and released earlier this month to be reunited with his son.

“The important thing is I'm alive and well, my father is home and we're together again,” George III told Click 2 Houston.

Looks like his time is done. Great story.

Naive? Your argument, as I read it, is that hospitals make money so they probably unethically kill otherwise able-to-survive humans against their will because of a state registry system. My training, work experience prior to medical school, time as a physician, and continued work in the field outside of my role in patient care all point to that being a very, very rare exception to outright untrue. Please correct my misunderstanding of your position, should it exist.

Good for Dad. I wonder how Mom is feeling knowing what she was about to do.

Request trial by jury and get a bunch of mothers seated.

A 27 year old with possible mental and physical impairment that could need 24/7 care. While I can agree with the father's actions, the real test is who is willing to step up and provide the kid with the care he will likely need.

Well its probably not the mother who likely wanted to pull the plug because she didn't want to be bothered with taking care of her son while she was out banging half the town. Which is probably the reason her husband divorced her in the first place.

Why? He prevented yet another death induced by medical care in a hospital. By the way, that's the 3rd leading cause of death in the US.

Was the medical staff trying to rush his death to harvest organs and do transplants?
