I don’t think a lot of people grasp the concept of how much damage a golf ball can do. Never hit into someone if there is the slightest chance you could reach them. Always wait for the green to not only clear but for the group in front to drive off.

Hitting into a group 200+ yards away will never result in a death (at least one caused by the impact from the ball).

Jeez, that's tough. I'm not sure wtf I'd do right now if I was him. I have a 6yr old daughter and if I was responsible for her death, I think I'd have to just go on out myself.

I am guessing he was with someone who was teeing up on either the ladies tee or somewhere in front of him. He probably got dropped off, waited for them to hit, then he hit while the cart was a bit ahead. Terribly tragic.

ETA: My bad. I thought it was up a bit.

I have a buddy that always has to wait for a par 5 green to clear and says this line, only to shank it every time

This of course is not the thread for those stories.

Why is the dad a dumbass? It sounds like a tragic accident to me.

That's not just safety, it's golf etiquette. You want me to pick your ball up? Have it roll up towards me while I'm walking back to the cart.

that, or something close to it, is my standard line if I'm up to tee off on a par five and there's people on the green

Because he had the cart with his little girl in the potential line of fire. Always have the cart even with you if not behind.

Jesus. I couldn't imagine one of my shanks killing my daughter.

Story said it hit the base of her skull. Obviously she could have been playing around in the cart and could have been facing away from him at any position, but base of skull makes me think it was still in front of him a bit, and when I played, you just never parked the carts ahead of the person teeing off. Most times, make sure you're behind the person.

He did? The story makes it seem like the cart was on side of him and he just shanked one really bad.
