it's kind of sad that they can arrest you over one person's accusations.. but sometimes there is no other way, oh well

So the question I have is this:
Was this evidence known to the police and they just decided to ignore it? Or, did this evidence come to light after he was arrested?
Let's hope the police did a better job with the other 7 suspects.
And if the evidence really shows the guy was in Texas, good for Cannizaro for doing the right thing.

It obviously came to light after he was arrested. It the cops had video evidence of him in Houston, why would they arrest him?

Because the NOPD is incompetent and was probably under pressure from the city to "arrest somebody"

Pathetic, NOPD, pathetic. If it weren't for the fact that the citizens would be on the hook for the payment, I would wish that Allen would sue the crap out of NOPD. That is terrible policing.
It's the police equivalent of "we have to pass the bill before we can read it".

The latter. They were facing immense public pressure to get an arrest. They had one eyewitness who Id'd him and ran with it. He established his alibi since then and they let him go.

I couldnt believe a judge signed a warrant for his aarest based off of one eye witness.
This guy has priors, but arresting him on that weak of a case was negligent.

Many folks can't afford to hire a PI to do all that and prove their innocence.

Ha! Ha! People get convicted of murder and other serious crimes all the time based on the testimony of a single eyewitness.
