State farm does not ask how much I make before they give me a quote.

My wife is a teacher, and our healthcare cost is $177/month for two adults and one child.
With Obamacare and our combined income, the calculator says that we would pay $514/month in the state of Alabama. We would receive a $198 subsidy for the year.
Going from $177/month to $514/month would cripple our standard of living.
EDIT - Changed our combined income from $65k to $36k just for kicks and it dropped to $165/month after a huge government subsidy.
Basically, I would be rewarded for making less money. Almost $400 a month rewarded.

Household income in 2014:2102% of poverty levelMaximum % of income you have to pay for the premium, if eligible for a subsidy:None Health Insurance premium in 2014 (for a silver plan, before tax credit):$10,856 per year You could receive a government tax credit subsidy of up to:$0 per year

Your out-of-pocket maximum for a Silver plan (not including the premium) can be no more than $12,700.

Explain this part to me:
At $65k, I would pay $514/month.
At $36k, I would pay $165/month.
At $150k, I would pay $531/month.
Why is the middle class getting shat on the most?

not really too much difference vs what my plan currently costs...shows how much of the bill my current employer handles....

It's all a crock of shite. Mine would amount to $8767.00 per year for spouse and child Which is about $739 a month for the silver plan with max out of pocket of 12 K. Someone explain to me how 22.9K (if something were to happen to me or my family) affordable. This whole thing is a sham. People who work and make decent salaries are making it affordable for the ones who don't. What's that "fair share" the dems are always yelling?

while I do agree that $9K per year is a crazy amount of cash, if your employer covers around 80% of your premiums (like most do), then that is right around what your current policy likely costs...
also noteworthy that under the obama plan, if something were to happen to you, then unless your wife is the main breadwinner in your house, your dependents would likely qualify for a subsidy, so they wouldn't have to pay nearly that much...

Yeah, but it's the $10k deductible that'll get you. Mine is comparable to my employer plan, but my employer pays almost 90%. I also only have a $2500 deductible. Add in the fact that many top notch doctors aren't part of Obamacare, and it is not even a reasonable comparison.

I must be misunderstanding your posts then because you seem to think it's the bees knees

Your correct but my employer pays it. If my employer drops and pays the penalty due to it being cheaper, I'm into this cluster frick. My main issue with this is the plan cost x. Depending on your income, you will pay either more or less than X. The people who have a higher income will pay far more than x to pay for the people who make less and are paying far less for the cost of x. This is what the democrats have been planning and preaching since day one. "You have it, maybe you need to spend a little more". That's bull shite in my book.

This may be true but my point was the platform this administration has taken as well as what they preach. A direct quote from the WH web site states that you shouldn't go bankrupt if you get sick and everyone deserves affordable coverage. I wasn't implying if I were gone tomorrow what would my family do, I was implying that if I got severely sick or was in a bad accident, I will pay almost 22k after the cost of the premium, deductible and out of pocket. I'm not OT rich. 22 grand at one pop to me isn't affordable in my mind. But if you have no ambition in life, settle for 19k a year job and mooch off the govt for your phone housing and food, you won't have to worry about this as we will pay you to be covered.

$13169.00 per year. Ouch!
Over 12k Max out of pocket
for a 70/30 co-pay Silver Plan.

My premiums would be $8064. I'm currently a w-2 contractor and on COBRA, and that's about the same amount.
For me, if I have to go the ACA route, it works because without it I probably would not be able to get insurance at all. Or afford any prescription medication that I need.
I would prefer single payer but it's what we have. For me, better than nothing.
Edited to add: Isn't the tax penalty for NOT getting it only 1% of your income? Probably cheaper to pay the tax, but not insurance

The poor don't have any money, and the rich don't want to take from the other rich. Who else is left?
We're the only ones that have money and no representation.

Wow, $245.34/mo. for a single, healthy 24 year old. Yea, no thanks.

Last week I got a platinum PPO plan for $236 and I am 35, self-employed and claim enough not to get any assistance. Its a great deal for now IMO. I got a better plan than I had for less money. I am sure it will go way up but for now I am happy.
