I sure hope this is true...unfortunately, about once a year, some researchers claim to have discovered a cure for Alzheimer's and another set claim to have discovered a cure for cancer...

If you're a forgetful mouse with a liver tumor, though, have I got great news for you!

That is huge. Could you imagine suffering from Alzheimers for years and then BOOM! You get your life and memories back?

LTC facilities are not going to like this one bit.

Man I hope, this is definitely one of the hardest diseases anyone and their family has to deal with. Give me cancer 1000000 times before Alzheimers

There's no money in cures. Only treatments. Things don't get cured anymore, just more easily (and more expensively) controlled.

Cant think of a major cure since the poilio vaccine, i find it statistically improbable that with all the research and money poured into finding cures that there never seems to be the breakthrough that puts the ( cancer, MS , alzheimers etc) industry out of business

I'm getting downvoted, but do people really think the same companies that pump literally tons of opiates into small rural communities like water give a shite about curing anything? Hell no man, they want repeat customers, no healthy people. Healthy people affect the bottom line.

Doubtful. Someome might slow it down or find a better way to detect it. Drug companies have spent A LOT of money trying to come up with ways to treat it with all of them failing. Some even made it to phase 3.

Also the high aluminium in Alzheimer's brains is something worth noting.

I’ve heard that modern deodorant may be thought to causing this disease since deodorant is mostly aluminum.

Curing Alzheimers didn't work out well for James Franco

I hope so.

My father died of Alzheimer's back in 2016. We decided to take care of him instead of sticking him in a home. In the beginning life is normal, plenty of good days. As time goes on, sleeping schedules get f'ed up, they start forgetting how certain things, then they start forgetting who relatives are. That's what sucks the most. It's an awful, awful disease. No one should have to go through it.

I hope this is true. Even if it's not this decade or next or the next one after, I pray that one day there is a cure. IMO it is the worst disease. It's like watching someone die slowly everyday for years and years.

Gilead's Hep C cure. They are bathing in cash now but their stock price has been trampled because they are curing all of the potential revenue sources. Wall street doesn't like cures, they like consistent cash flow with treatments

It appears that in humans this is a treatment that cures a symptom so long as the BRACE1 inhibitor is used.

From the article

quote:

Cleveland Clinic researcher Riqiang Yan, Ph.D., an author on the study, told ABC News that in the mouse model, the gene that produces the enzyme was deleted, completely stopping the enzyme's production. But in humans, it’s unlikely that BACE1 inhibitors would totally halt the enzyme's production, Yan said.

Hep C has been. My mother recently went through the treatment and is now hep c free. She contracted Hep c during surgery in the late 70s/early 80s(I can’t recall which.)
