Cruise Lines Still Discriminating Against Single People (Coronavirus Related)

Considering the State Department has just advised people not to go on cruise ships, you think cruise ship operators would be desperate for any people and any money right now.

To give you some back story, I live in the Orlando area. I work full time for an IT company in Orlando but also work part time at Disney. As part of our benefits Disney Cruise Line offers discounts for employees when they are available. Typically there are very few cruises with employee discounts but right now the discounts are insane. I just looked a few days ago and Disney has 52 cruises listed on the employee intranet with employee rates.

Myself and other singles though have the problem of trying to find someone to go on a cruise with them, especially last minute. I contacted Disney Cruise Line today to see if they are allowing any exceptions to their single discrimination policy (where a single person still has to pay double rate even though they'll be eating half the amount of food and drinking half the amount of alcohol).but they are still requiring double occupancy.

Does it stun anyone else that Disney Cruise Line and other cruise lines are still wanting to discriminate against single travelers? That they would rather have an empty stateroom than a stateroom with 1 person (and this is the scenario that is going to happen)? Part of me hopes they get what's coming to them and that the coronavirus causes the cruise line industry to suffer the same fate as the Titanic. But again, why would cruise lines, desperate for people, not want to make an exception to this policy?

People die every single day. Do you stop and cry for every single person who dies on this planet? Then you are just as selfish.

The whole thing is overblown. Even if you get the coronavirus there's a very good chance you aren't going to die.

You can go ahead and suspend your life. While you're cowering in fear I I hung out at the beach today and went to a good seafood restaurant I enjoy. Guess what, I didn't die. I'm not going to be a hermit. I'm not suspending my life over a virus that's barely worse than the flu.

Why should you have a room all to yourself at a cheaper rate?

I'm okay with paying the full price for the room. But why should I pay double for food, alcohol and prepaid gratuities?

If you want to make the rules, build your own ship. Until then, follow the rules of the owners of said ship as stated in your rental agreement. If you don’t like said rules, stay home.

You’re being very insensitive right now

Please respect the victims of this horrible virus and I pray it doesn’t impact you or your family

That's fine, I will. I just think it's funny when these cruise ships are going to be ghost towns. You think with the coronavirus they would be desperate to get anyone to be on a cruise ship. That's my point. I'll gladly give them my $600 for a 3 night cruise but I'm not paying double.

So what do you want us to do? Shut our lives down? Live like a hermit? Have a state funeral for every person who dies from the coronavirus? I'm sorry but I'm not going to do that, I'm going to live my life.

I almost died from strep pneumonia 2 years ago. Were you crying and praying for me?

You can let fear control your life. I won't.

And a grown man going on a Disney cruise alone? Sounds a little pervy.

Yes it makes absolutely no sense that a guy, who lives an hour away from Port Canaveral, and gets an employee discount for a cruise, would want to get away from a few days on a cruise.

Makes absolutely no sense that the guy would just want to relax, drink, hang out by the pool and have some good entertainment.

You do realize that cruise ships, even Disney Cruise Line, have adult only areas right? That's probably where I would spend most of my time.

Nice going on the discrimination. What makes a grown woman or even a group of grown woman any less chance of being perv's? How many women teachers have sexually assaulted underage boys again?

You still have to look for travel sites that specialize in no single supplement s. Norwegian seems to be the best about it

I can’t imagine someone wanting to go on a Disney cruise by themselves. I mean it may be fun but I dunno man...
