Any thoughts/suggestions?

Sooo…what I do is rent a Penske truck, make a few runs, then take a few weeks off.

No insurance. No upkeep. No payments.

My Uncle was a tool pusher offshore for almost all his life. About a year and half ago he decided he didn't want to be offshore anymore. He bought a Ram 2500 and pulls new campers all over the country to different dealerships. He makes pretty decent money and seams to really enjoy it. Hes been to over 35 states that short time. He works pretty much when he wants because he's an independent contractor. He also mostly pulls new campers, on occasion he has to pull one from a dealership back to the factory.

I bought an expedition and the sales guy I've always used knew an old couple that came to the dealership, drove my suv and one of the dealerships explorers to meet me for drop off. So maybe call some dealerships and ask them if they need someone to do that? Idk what you'd get paid but I'd assume it'd be mileage.

Large majority of career Hotshot/truck drivers retire with debilitating back issues and often MI's before 60yr.

No thanks

I know there are hotshot drivers, but don't want to spend $100k on a tow vehicle and $10k on a trailer.

if you don’t want or need the money, you don’t have to own the vehicle.

lots of owners lease their vehicles and trailers to hotshot companies that then hire drivers to operate them.

driver only guys don’t make great money though.

but if you do your research you may be able to find a company looking for mostly long distance driving.

you can’t say “no” very often when you get a call for a run.
the more you decline runs, the less your phone will ring.

You can do motorhomes but need a cdl.

To drive a motorhome as a pro mover requires a cdl. But 93 yo PeePaw can drive it to the Del Boca Vista Crossings RV Park and Casino with a regular dl. Makes sense. Lol.

Either the entire lot is gated or individual spots are marked as "reserved". If you park in a reserved spot in a truck stop without paying they'll consider you as trespassing and have you towed by local police and towing companies. Places like TA/Petro truck stops charge $25/night just to park your truck - their properties in Los Angeles and Atlanta are over $40 and their entire lot is pay to park.

Pretty much a thing of the past. There's a few spots in total shitholes like Memphis and Detroit, but I've been trucking now for nearly 15 years and have only had to deal with door knockers a handful of times.

Well dang it, that's a reason not to do it.
