There are emerging companies like Square that don’t charge all of the fees, but do charge you more per swipe. You could run a cost analysis and see if a company like that fits your needs.

I had a business and while we only ran around 60k a month in credit cards we saved about $700/mo. In fees when we switched. The main problem with square is that it’s not encrypted but there are other companies that are.

But, if you’re paying that much in fees you could probably pressure your provider to lower or drop a bunch of it with the threat to move.

So the government should dictate terms between a credit card processing company and the consumer? Freedom indeed.

Has the OP disclosed what type of business he has? Based on your business type you could be considered high risk.

What kind of business is it?

1. It is illegal in most states to charge a fee when someone uses their c.c.
2. Some businesses like gas stations charge more for their services and then offer a discount when the customer pays with cash/check.
3. Take the credit card fee out of your salesmans commission.
4. Have the salesman ask for check or cash.

Monopolies and oligarchy's fly in the face of conventional American freedom.

While government intervention in effective free market systems should not be encouraged, they should intervene when absolute control with no oversight harms the best interest of the citizen consumer.

Sometimes freedom takes the balls to protect it for the majority from the minorities who find enrichment through entitlement. I see no difference in a few wealthy protecting their own self interest as the few who advocate the disenfranchised for their own financial gain.

I bought some tires from a place that does this. I still used the card. The points were worth more than the fee.

The problem is that we quoted a job around $30k and the guy insisted that he paid for it on his AMEX. AMEX charges a ridiculous fee. What do we say? No? That's over $1k in our profit just to earn him points.

There are 3rd party vendors that will basically pay you in cash and charge a surcharge to the credit card user. It's similar to a cash advance. You can pay for vehicles and whatnot in this manner.

You can't just add the price to the cost of the product?

Does any of you boss baws know if this is a legit practice to use or not?
yes it is legit, many companies do it

a suggestion, you'd be better off PR wise to offer a 3.5% discount to people using cash or checks, at least, you'll get a lot less pushback

Raise prices slightly and give discounts to non card payments

Good luck

We call those guys windshield bullies, I hate them. Hell when I’m in wife’s car I get messed with by them. Tell them you have State Farm insurance with a high deductible and they usually leave you alone. They are mostly after insurance payments.

Yeah, except credit card companies are not monopolies in any sense of the word. There is cash available, there is PayPal, there is MasterCard, VISA, Discover, and Amex, Bitcoin, etc. The issue here is that customers prefer a certain way to pay, but the OP doesn’t want to pay the fee (which is understandable). I’d consider it to be a cost of doing business and try either reduce the fee somehow or just cut costs somewhere else. Refusing payment or charging fees increases the odds of angering customers. 5% profit on $100 in revenue always beats 20% profit on $0 in revenue.
