Weird story but it doesn’t prove the guy has done anything illegal tbh

I’d have to see what the letter said to really make an opinion. Seems they had affection for each other but maybe waited until she was of age, which while it is creepy I’m not sure it would be illegal as long as they never had sex or anything while she was under 18

Interesting . Can you please explain to me why Jesus on two different occasions told his Apostles to go an forgive men’s sins?
Think about it. …. If you are wrong about this, (as you clearly are)
What other things might you be wrong about.

Valid point, deltaland. It would be very enlightening to see what the letter said. Still, the police seem to have gone from “no crime” to “possible crime” since these two ran off, so they must have seen something in that letter that was concerning. Also, various comments that I have seen on FB and Reddit threads by people who know this priest or went to McG-T seem to indicate that this guy has a pattern of grooming high school girls.

I guess time will tell what the truth is.

1 Timothy 2:5

5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

Hmmmmm…. Paul didn’t seem to agree with you.

speak solely from what the Bible says. Catholics like to twist different parts of scripture and use it to explain their own ideas. The idea of having a bureaucratic structure with a pope that controls all aspects of the church is absurd. Each church should be able to independently practice how they interpret the Bible and not what some old man says thousands of miles away in a castle.

So no pursuit of truth? Just go by “your” interpretation of the Bible? What about traditions of early Christians? Isn’t that as important as the Bible? Where in the Bible does it say only to use scripture to form truth and dogma?

Also, I’ll give you one guess at who put the Bible together and decided on which gospels/books were divinely inspired. (It was the Catholic Church)

Catholics don’t disagree with that. It is God that forgives sins. Jesus commissioned his apostles/priests to absolve sins in John 20. The sacrament of reconciliation is to give us the grace and accountability.

“Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” Sure sounds like Jesus gave that authority to the apostles.

The only way you’re getting any action from that priest is if he mistakes your G17P17 birth canal for the George Wallace tunnel and drives his church van into it

The Bible wasn’t written until hundreds of year of oral tradition and many of the most popular books of the time were left out for political reasons

Um… sounds contradictory to me. Either Jesus serves as mediator or man serves as mediator. Can’t be both. There are many passages where the Bible says (and Jesus himself says) that HE is the only one able to serve as mediator (or propitiation) for us to God to forgive/absolve sins. Through his own sacrifice on Calvary. I think that scripture in John is taken completely out of context and has been used incorrectly in doctrine. The Bible does not contradict itself and God is not the author of confusion. I think Catholics may have been wise to research EXACTLY what was being said and why before structuring an entire church around a single verse taken out of context. If you think about it, why would he tell sinful men they can forgive sin when it took Jesus himself being the only one worthy to sacrifice himself for the redemption/forgiveness of sin. If they or a priest or pope or Mary can forgive sin, it completely mitigates the need for Jesus to be crucified for us. He could’ve just had Moses or Abraham or a million other “righteous” people do it.

Another good example is the translation for “stone” or “rock” when he is talking to Peter. The word he was referring to Peter is for a small pebble. The word he was referred to himself was the word for a large boulder. He was basically telling Peter that Peter was just a small pebble, but he himself (Jesus) was the large boulder he would build the church on. Yet If I’m correct , I think that Catholics and a lot of non-Catholics actually believe that Jesus built the church on Peter… which is absurd. Peter was a sinful man, and God can’t even bear to look upon sin. Why would he choose to build his entire church on sinful man? He wouldn’t and didn’t.

You still haven’t explained why Jesus told his apostles to go and forgive men’s sins.

Well it’s nothing new. People have been fighting wars in the name of religion since the start of mankind.
