What if they hired legal workers
These are legal workers
And American workers can apply

and paid them actual decent pay?
These legal workers are paid better than decent (and better than the comparable wages the Americans not applying are receiving)

I’ll be looking for these guys next time we have a teacher pay raise thread supporting the teachers since the ladies at the peeling plant just as much or more while there here and it’s not considered a livable wage

We have to understand that Americans for the most part are too spoiled, well off, and lazy to do such work. This is not just for the US for many Western and Middle Eastern industrialized countries.
Take away the lazy mf’ing benefits and watch the work get done

Foreign laborers have to pay income tax also. If they don’t, it gets flagged and they can’t come to the US and work.

Another ignorant comment. Foreign wages are more than American minimum wages. Plus you have to supply housing and transportation

Strain also said the best thing people can do for the industry right now is eat more crawfish.
Should make prices for people actually boiling and consuming locally go down
Should, but if the processors aren't buying, the farmers don't farm because they don't have anyone to sell the bulk of their crawfish to.

whatever happened to hiring highschool kids for their first jobs?
Posted on 3/12/26 at 8:54 am to Shexter
I'll peel em for halves. 30lb sack, I keep 15lb for my trouble. But will only be able to do it every other day. Got to sober up.

Funny, a family member of my step brother is a farmer in Louisiana who owns 10's of thousands of acres of farm land some with crawfish ponds. He has no trouble getting migrant workers to live on his farm and work.
He does it the legal way so maybe that is the issue with these processing plants?

oh look another dumbass who either didn't read the article or this thread or is too stupid to comprehend
Farmer workers are on H2A visas - no problems with those, those don't have caps
Peelers are on H2B - totally different - has caps, competes with a bunch of other industries for these visas

Very few HS kids do labor jobs these days. They've been too brain f*cked with the "must go to college" mindset.
