Mrs. JFT was telling me about this a couple of months ago. They apparently are pushing towards them in most hospitals and medical schools.

A manikin is a medical teaching device, and is often a simulacrum of the human body. The "manikin" spelling can differentiate it in purpose and form from the more commonly seen "mannequin". In any case, I believe the word is Dutch, not French, so the "manikin" spelling is actually probably a little closer to Dutch.
