Ok so question, I know it should be reported if a sexual assault occurs no matter the ages, and also if it's an adult doing things to a minor. I didn't realize, assuming it was consensual, if they are the same ages it had to be reported. Saying that, 8 and 9 years olds, doing stuff like this boggles my mind and it is extremely unsettling. I was probably 14 before I even started thinking about doing sexual stuff with a girl, 12 before I even considered a girl pretty. I guess I'm saying if they were 15 and 16 and did consensual sex or a blowjob, does that have to be reported to authorities? I ask because when I was in HS people were fricking all over the place in and around the school. Some got caught but it would just be detention.

Is it possible the admin felt the same way? They were both kids and it was consensual, and maybe didn't feel it needed to be turned into the authorities?

It's the law. They don't get to decide what to do. Do you know what mandatory means?

Yes, I’m asking a question not saying they did right or wrong. I didn’t realize it was mandatory to report if consent was there and an adult was not involved. Their ages is disheartening but I’m also old and in the 80s if people were having sex there were no authority involved if caught

I think sexual activity between two young children of that age is not normal and tends to be a sign of sexual abuse. I read the whole report, and one of the kids from this incident was involved in another incident that, again, wasn't reported. When its reported, the child will be sent to their local children's advocacy center for an evaluation and further counseling. Law enforcement helps to initiate that process and they can lead an investigation in the event the child is being abused by someone else.

Reporting Trigger: A report is required whenever there is cause to believe a child's physical, mental health, or welfare is endangered

As for highschool kids and being affectionate, I don't know.

I do know that at my son's junior high, if a kid says to his friend jokingly, "bro, I'm gonna' kill you," the teacher has to report it.

They're going to over-correct after this Lyon elementary incident. Things may balance out eventually.

But 8 year old kids being sexually aggressive is not normal, by any means. The teachers should have called law enforcement and let them handle it.

I 100% agree with this, extremely young to be doing things like this. I appreciate the rest of your reply also.

Notwithstanding what should be your desire to help kids, if someone is designated a mandatory reporter and you get any kind of whiff of something like this you report it as fast as you can and get it off your plate and out of legal jeopardy immediately.

It's common sense. Hard to believe all of these people are that stupid. Sounds like the Superintendent should be arrested.

No 8 or 9 year old is “gay”.

Prepubescent children behaving that way is a huge flashing red light of sexual abuse.

Ok, I asked the question for clarity. If I'm a teacher and see kids at that age doing something like this I'm immediately calling the police and reporting it to admin. My question has been answered but it was more in the form of, if I catch say a 16 year old girl giving a BJ to a 16 year old boy behind the stadium, am I supposed to call the law and or report that also? Or what is the age cut-off for say a typical boyfriend/girlfriend situation?

I understand this is 2 boys and their ages, i would personally call for this situation. I just wanted clarity on the law. It's all disgusting

If you catch them on school property you must report it.

Yes I understand that now. I did not initially though but I’m trying to make sure people don’t think I’m defending the school here also. I just wanted clarity, all understood now

i understand what you are saying. but the difference here is that if two sixteen year olds are caught fricking in high school, they are post-pubescent and while they shouldnt be doing that, it's somewhat normal.

a prepubescent eight and a nine year old engaging in this kind of activity is different because even though, yeah, there wasnt an adult directly involved in the specific incident, there is ONE HUNDRED PERCENT inappropriate or abusive adult involvement at home or somewhere

everyone got caught up in "waht are the rules" and "what does the law say" and completely failed in basic critical thinking and humanity.

My initial first take reaction was damn, the internet is really bad for kids that age. I also don't think kids that age are looking at that type of stuff so I agree, 8 and 9 years old even thinking about something like that, it's happening to them at home or somewhere.

I've reported many things over the years in ems, sexual assaults, regular drunk dad "disciplining" his kids too harshly, horrible living environments, and elder abuse. I just didn't know how it worked in the school environment. I understand no matter the ages and consent, it has to be reported, I j ust didn't know b/c my only experience is being in school myself. I just remember when kids got caught in HS they got detention and parents were called, that was it. As I've said, I would have reported the ages we are discussing in this incident, I just didn't realize if there was a cut-off but there isn't, report no matter the age.

By all accounts has his shite together.

The same thing is going on at Franklinton High School right now, and it's the same type of circle jerk. Police chiefs sister works at the high school, he's buddies with the football coach principal, the teacher pervert is the son of a school board member, also a known pervert. All these people do is collect a check and play CYA for themselves and one another. People tend to forget that schools are the engine of a community. Whey they fall, the rest of town isn't far behind.

What makes you believe there was consent here? You don't think even a cursory investigation to make sure there was consent should be mandatory?

I've had a few dealing with DCFS and my conclusion is that they are basically worthless humans just collecting a paycheck.
