Couples Going Social Media Official, Then Suddenly Breaking Up And Deleting All Traces

I got married before it was really a thing, so, fortunately, I never had to navigate dating in the age of social media. It's the strangest phenomenon to me to see people going "public" with their dating relationships, then suddenly deleting every post and picture of their history when a breakup occurs. Like, this person was important enough in your life to make a public announcement with, make and invite public comment about, and publish pictures of; yet, after a breakup, you delete all public traces that this person ever existed to you?
Recently had two social media associates do this. Was fascinating to watch unfold. Flooded their accounts with daily public posts and pictures with a new love. Dozens of comments by family member and friends on every new post. In one case, even shared an extravagant public wedding proposal, which was accepted. Then, bam, nothing. No more updates. And all evidence the other person ever existed in their lives gone. Memory holed from public consciousness.
So strange to me.

Can you imagine trying to marry/date/frick again, somebody creeps (or is shown) your social media accounts, and they can see every recorded moment of your last relationship?
Some of it is probably anguish avoidance, too.

Not good friends but not strangers either.

If it's not on the 'Gram, it never happened.

I hope the pendulum swings with the next generation, when they realize how uncool sharing every aspect of your life is.

Happened here on TD 10-15 years ago
Younger OTers would pretty freely post pics and other personal info
You never see that anymore

When I first came on TD ('07) I was astounded by how much personal detail some females (Picc especially) posted about themselves
That doesn't happen at all anymore

Yeah, all that changed with posters regretting to protect their Photobucket accounts and that holmes zeroing in on her taking a picture clear across Tiger Stadium.

It’s especially weird when they delete the videos of themselves cropdusting in Lowe’s.

I remember this being a thing when Facebook first started to blow up. I wasn’t aware people still do this.

One of them cheated and the other found out.

Social media is nothing but a log of your baggage. If you get into a serious relationship with a girl do you want her Facebook filled with albums of her cuddling with her last 3 boyfriends?
Baggage isn't new, but a detailed viewable record of it is.
Purging it upon new relationship is smart. Never using it at all even smarter.

My ex and I were never big on social media, and I never posted any pics myself, but when we split up, I asked her to block me. Not only did I not want to catch myself looking at old pictures, but I also didn't want to know anything about her life moving forward. It made moving on much easier.

All of my serious exes still follow me on all platforms. My longest tenured ex, to this day, 7 years after we broke up, is still one of the first people to watch my social media clips. She even did it on her honeymoon. We still have a shared Apple photo album that is 10 years old. I haven’t spoken to her in 5 years but I do wonder if her husband is aware
