Could you date someone 30 years younger or older than you? What's your age limit, + or -

Recent celeb passings or public appearances have reminded me that some folks *find love* all sorts of ways.

Gene Hackman - 30 years older than his wife
Michelle Trachtenberg 24 years younger than her boyfriend
Sean Penn - 33 yrs older than his 'friend'

And we can't forget Bill Belichick and his gal. - 48 yr difference.

I've always tended to the acceptability of *decent* society is that one should date a person no younger than 1/2 your age + 7. So if you're 50, your partner shouldn't be younger than 32, and so on.

(Not sure if that applies to marriage or simply dating)

My range has been 5 years, either way, fwiw.

OK, so you're not Muslim. Got it.

But what about a 66 yr old?

I’m 64 and would def date a 30 year old. Not younger though. I’d date someone up to like 68 for the companionship… a 30 year old is for my future heart attack….

I don't know. I dated a 26 year old last summer as a 43 year old and I felt like i had nothing in common. Gen Z is just too different. Now i just focus on older millennials but i don't like dating older than me either.

I'm only 44 so no. When i was 40, I was banging a hot 20 year old with daddy issues, but would never date anyone that young.

I respect that. My wife is six years younger than me and I’m not sure I could go much lower than that.

30 years younger would be legal but creepy.

30 years older would be a nice way to snag some inheritance money or Social Security benefits.

Going more than 15 years in either direction is a bad idea. Divorce rate is way higher.

I’m 45 and mostly date 25 to 30 year olds. Won’t date anyone older than 32. Being active and in shape pays huge dividends.

For the sake of this discussion, to be seen & known by society as a couple. Not merely some random hook up or one night stand.

And no question, that does happen. I'm just curious as to how common that is, and is there less of a stigma about it or is it just something that's always been around, some might make note of, but shrug off. it just is what it is.

Also, if personalities click that's key. But damn, trying to relate to someone born decades apart, just seems like a tall order.

Feels suspiciously like 'for legal reasons, I'll claim she was 19 when we first met'

It was a week before she turned 19. Sounds better than 18.

There is obviously a cultural reference gap that exists, but the longer we are together, she just absorbs my taste in music, media, and politics, so that difference keeps diminishing.
