quote:

Could the South have won the Civil War with 100 AK-47s?
"You people of the South don't know what you are doing. This country will be drenched in blood, and God only knows how it will end. It is all folly, madness, a crime against civilization! You people speak so lightly of war; you don't know what you're talking about.

War is a terrible thing! You mistake, too, the people of the North. They are a peaceable people but an earnest people, and they will fight, too. They are not going to let this country be destroyed without a mighty effort to save it … Besides, where are your men and appliances of war to contend against them? The North can make a steam engine, locomotive, or railway car; hardly a yard of cloth or pair of shoes can you make. You are rushing into war with one of the most powerful, ingeniously mechanical, and determined people on Earth — right at your doors.

You are bound to fail. Only in your spirit and determination are you prepared for war. In all else you are totally unprepared, with a bad cause to start with. At first you will make headway, but as your limited resources begin to fail, shut out from the markets of Europe as you will be, your cause will begin to wane. If your people will but stop and think, they must see in the end that you will surely fail.

100? No, for most of the reasons already mentioned. It would take considerable time for the generals to figure out how to employ them. Plus, you're likely to lose some at every engagement because the rifle and the man carrying it aren't going to be immune to long-range volley fire or artillery. I agree that modern artillery would be more decisive than 100 AK's.

Now, given enough ammo and starting in 1863, 1000 might do it.

They would definitely need full body armor (maybe not the heaviest type) and night vision googles.

this reminds me of a Reddit thread that migrated to Texags a long time ago asking if a Marine Expeditionary Unit with only it's organic capabilities and supplies/logistics could defeat the entire Roman Empire at its peak

I don’t know about the ak’s but a cache of Glock 9s and Mac 10s shot sideways and emptying the entire magazine no matter what would have stopped those damn Yankees in their tracks for sure . Also bandanas and street gang attire a must .

12 M30Mortars with trained crews spotters and sufficient ammo could turn the tide..

They would destroy the Yankee artillery quickly and any massed formations of Union infantry would be decimated.

A spotter in a balloon with field glasses to adjust fire and the North is in a world of hurt. Far more than with some AK'.s

They didn't need ak47s they just need to fight a guerilla warfare/flying column style war and they could have won.

I read the book and enjoyed it. Yes, I believe the South would have won.

Yanks rifles were good for volleys at 400 yards, good for individual shots at 200 and snipers at 800.

There’s an IG I follow that does weird battles like this.

1 million Buffalo vs 1 IronMan type shite.

It’s outrageous to follow.

How about 10 T-Rexes, and each T-Rex has 2 Bengal Tigers on a chain leash going into battle? But. I'm not finished...each Bengal Tiger has been trained by Chuck Norris, and has night vision goggles, a Kevlar vest and they all are named Ditka.

doubt it. The Confederacy's issue wasn't really firepower. It was the lack of being able to properly supply their troops. Once the blockade was in place and the manufacturing/transportation infrastructure took some damage, it was pretty much a wrap.

Yup. I wrote this a long time back.

It echoes this

Logistics

Defenders far outnumbered,
The city was surrounded,
Enemy advancing,
As their foreign guns had pounded,

For they had run the numbers,
Defenders stood no chance,
Their cannons mighty thundered,
To their calculated stance,

And so, they sat encircled,
To pummel the resistance,
The besieged city sat,
Ripe and waiting in the distance,

They waited at the ready,
Formed up in practiced ranks,
Had them outgunned, by 5 to 1,
With artillery and tanks,

But they just sat there waiting,
Barrels begging for some violence,
As they hungered for the battle,
But the only sound was silence,

For on their road to ruin,
Ground down by endless track,
The flames were burning brightly,
From a cunning, cruel attack,

The fuel for all their war machines,
The ammo for their guns,
Now blazed in an inferno,
On the steppe, like midnight sun,

Even though they should be bested,
Based on numbers and statistics,
Hungry armies still have tummies,
All that matters is logistics

What about two F 4 phantoms and a generous supply of napalm?

How could Lee best unveil them on the battlefield to make the biggest difference? And how could he keep them from falling into Union hands?

If he had them at Gettysburg then probably so. Win Gettysburg and the war was over. Losing Gettysburg and Vicksburg on the same day and essentially the war was over at that point.

Just imagine if we had picked our own cotton. No need for future weapons.
