Florida, duh!
quote:
WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. – A 62-year-old Florida man depended on his instincts when a bobcat attacked him, and it paid off — he survived, the bobcat didn't.
Dale Rippy, a resident of Wesley Chapel, Florida, was pulling trashcans back to his house May 30 when he saw what he thought was a large cat. After realizing the animal was actually a bobcat, he set the trashcans down and prepared for an attack.
Having grown up on a farm, Rippy said he knew the bobcat would attack when it didn’t run away after seeing him.
“When it growled, I knew it was going to jump and bite me,” he said.
The animal then jumped on him and began to scratch and bite. Rippy said he knew if he could get a good hold on the animal, he would be able to choke it, even if that meant letting the bobcat take a couple of bites.
“I started choking it when got a good hold,” he said. “I choked it ‘til he died. I got scratched up pretty good.”

I need to see the stats of the bobcat. A tale of the tape is necessary.
This could have been a pussy arse twink of a bobcat.

Yeah. Okay.

The most likely outcome is that the bobcat runs away long before you kill it but a grown man should definitely survive an encounter with a 20 lb cat.
But no doubt it would hurt like hell.

I would break its legs by stomping on it. Or gouge its eyes out. The key is to give it a debilitating injury.

Possibly, but only if the person were able to get a good grip on the bobcat's neck and either choke it out or bash its head into the ground repeatedly.
I think the bobcat would have just as good of a chance at killing the person. One good bite to the throat and you'd likely bleed out.

Bobcats are also only around 20 pounds
Domestic house cats can push 20lbs easy
Male bobcats can get up to 40lbs.
A pissed off bobcat that size would have 9 out of 10 males shitting in their pants

Here's a better link with some pictures

am i naked for this encounter?
why am i getting scratched to hell and having muscles look like spaghetti?
I'd imagine i'd encounter a bobcat in the woods. I would be wearing some type of thick pants and jacket more than likely. Yeah it will still scratch and bite you and it will hurt. It weighs nothing. Suck it up grab it and then decide if you want to choke it, slam it on the ground as hard as you can, or throw it up in the air as high as you can. Just don't be a pussy about it.

Can get up there, but average closer to 20.
And if a 62-year old man can take down a 25lb. rabid bobcat, I maintain the average adult male should be able to as well. Not without some pain, of course.

I stand corrected. I didn't think a person would be able to make it through without potentially life-threatening injuries.

Okay fine. So get ahold of its tail and helicopter it against a hard surface?

depends of the person. If we are talking the average male I'd say hell no, but if we are talking a military combat trained individual I'd say maybe.

An 80 year old lady made it through a rabid bobcat attack once, fighting it with a garden sickle. Her dogs eventually chased it away. She had to get 50 or so stitches. So, if an 80 year old lady with a garden sickle can make it out alive, I like my chances of killing it with my bare hands.

Garden sickles are underrated

Not sure how many posters have ever seen or hunted a bobcat but it would be an iffy proposition not to have the cat scratch or bite you in such a way that didn't threaten a bleed out scenario (one's neck, mostly). They're much bigger than house cats.
I guess if you had really long arms and were covered in a heavy leather coat, collar, gloves, and pants you could do it but if that thing was fighting back you'd still be in for a shite load of scars and be lucky to have an eye left...
