The ACoE has some great engineers working for them - both military and civilian.

Like any other government organization, they are subject to not only political influence, but limitations on spending and authority.

They could design/build many more PREVENTIVE projects. But our government/politicians would rather roll the dice and pay for damages afterwards, instead of prevention today.

Should be interesting considering the tropical disturbance in the gulf that'll be dumping rain for the next few days and adding to the amount of water the river has to drain.

Sounds like they want to let this play out and not go into panic mode.

I honestly don't think they have that sort of discretion. From what I understand certain metrics have to be met before the spillway can be opened, and that hasn't happened yet.

I know I’m just joking. The river in Morgan city is still at 8’3” and still rising.

The water in Stephensville has already dropped a foot since the barge. So the barge is doing its job.

Now they worry is all this rain and what it’s going to do

I feel like you guys aren’t as serious about this as you should be. Taking safety and this river situation for granite.

Water is a crazy bitch. I’ve been doing a rain dance in Thibodaux so I can quit fricking with the sprinklers

So to recap, the Mississippi River @ Vicksburg is already 7k cfs higher than it was in 2011, but because it's still 6' below the height it was in 2011, they're not going to open it?

ETA - My bad, read the chart incorrectly. Vicksburg discharge is still well, well below the 2011 maximum discharge.

JBE won't open it because his ambulance chaser friends don't want their camps to flood.
