The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will NOT open the Morganza Spillway for the foreseeable future, according to U.S. Congressman Garret Graves of Louisiana.

The Corps will monitor the situation for any future consideration of opening.

It would have been only the third time the spillway was opened.

Sounds like they want to let this play out and not go into panic mode.

MORGANZA, La. (WAFB) - A spokesperson for the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority says the Morganza Spillway will not open Sunday. The date of the opening was pushed back to Sunday, June 9. On Wednesday, officials said they would only release 20% of the water they initially planned to send into the Atchafalaya Basin. On Thursday, a spokesperson for CPRA announced they would not be opening the spillway on Sunday. No new date has been set. More details still to come.

Crawfish prices will be high next year due to not enough freshwater flowing thru the basin.

I sure AF hope this is due to lowered river forecasts and not the ACoE caving to political pressure from interests in the Morganza that would flood.

The water in the river South of Morganza to the gulf has been so damn high for so damn long.
