Let's not forget the WHO tweet speading information that the Coronovirus couldn't be contracted from human to human contact back in January.

Are you under the impression that this virus just decided to avoid Louisiana while it was infecting the rest of the world?

How are cases/deaths reported? Is it deaths from midnight to midnight or just from the time since the previous reporting time?

Lol.. yeah it’s interesting but Louisiana took action 11 days earlier into this than Italy did. Italy had 650 deaths before they did anything.

Jenn & nurse, how are y'all doing in your respective places?

We have no idea what day we are on in comparison to Italy.

That’s days from the first reported case.

update here:
the original patient I've been chatting about has deteriorated but it's because of a secondary bacterial pneumonia
they are requiring more aggressive ventilator settings and have been paralyzed
we are starting to get a little nervous as an institution about our overall ability to handle things if it gets too much worse

Is this the one you were treating with hydroxychloroquine?

Which means nothing because we don't how widely it had spread or how many already died before the first reported case.
There are also several day delays in reporting that are not the same between the 2. When you are talking about exponential growth, that alone makes the comparison invalid.

yes
eta: I want to explain a little bit about bacterial pneumonia after viral pneumonia
it is actually fairly common in influenza for a patient to get a bacterial pneumonia after recovering from a viral pneumonia; the lung tissue is very damaged and allows for easy invasion from a bacterial species.
Since this virus is more caustic to lung tissue than influenza, I expect it to carry a higher bacterial pneumonia risk. that is probably one reason why hydroxychloroquine + azithromycin (a common agent used to treat bacterial pneumonia) is better than hydroxychloroquine alone

Elderly? Any other underlying medical conditions?

Not elderly. Medical history unclear but they fit the profile of hypertension.

Is bacterial vs viral pneumonia able to be differentiated by just a blood test? Do y'all go off of elevated white counts to determine bacterial vs viral?

How did the patient react the hydroxychloroquine?

Are y'all using azithromycin as well? Meaning were y'all and if not have y'all been able to add it?

ALso, is this patient obese or no?
