It's highly contagious but its not some shite from a movie.

I want to present a clinical scenario that underscores the reality of testing and unknown cases.
Earlier (3-4 weeks ago), before all the cancellations and the predominate opinion was this wasn't really here yet or a big deal and we couldnt really test, a youngish patient presented with respiratory distress/SOB/severe cough. Flu screens negative, was diagnosed with bronchitis, and given Levaquin (a common antibiotic for bronchitis).
Couple weeks later, theyre back with symptoms largely unresolved; no longer in distress but still coughing and a mild fever.
Chest CT read as "likely viral pneumonia".
This patient has been out and about spreading that entire time. This is why the earlier lack of testing really hurt.

So someone tell me this if you can:
We stay home or really limit going out to necessary things only for 14 days .. or a month. When we finally can move "freely" again, what happens to those who have it but never knew it and we're all out in public again. Wouldn't you still have a potential to cause the healthcare system to be overwhelmed with all of us who "have it but don't know it" are in contact with people again? Will we ever be at a point to test as many people, symptomatic or not, as possible?
I guess I'm asking how does this hamster wheel every end? If I should know this part of it I apologize but I don't so I figured it's better to ask.

My guess is we are just trying to get out of this initial surge. There will still be cases later when we open back up. Hopefully by then our testing will be a full go and we can quickly isolate those that we need to. Yes, there will still be asymptomatics that spread it and people that get sick (like the flu) but would be more manageable at that point.

Yep and large outbreaks will have to be managed individually.
Overall public scare will limit a lot of future spread anyway.
The concerning part is vast majority aren't going to want to fly, aren't going to want to be in hotels, bars, casinos, etc.

Well when testing is optional, I'd like to be tested as I work around elderly people. BUT negative today does not mean negative in a few days or weeks. Sigh.
