Yeah corona must really like Italian food because it’s not like Italy is remote from other European countries. But context doesn’t matter and we’re totally doomed like Italy no matter what!

Good luck on that. We’ve only known for almost 200 years that hand washing helps prevent the spread of illnesses and many people still ignore it.
My son used to be obsessive about hand washing. Fact is, Kid’s don’t have time to go to the bathroom and their lockers between classes. He was never sick until middle school but now he’s sick twice a year and dehydrated. It’s been brought to the school board multiple times that there needs to be time for kids to refill water bottles and wash their hands in between classes. The UTI rates are through the roof starting in middle school, too. No time for the bathroom.

Well I guess you have to consider the alternative which is sick people being denied basic medical care. It does seem so crazy then. Maybe we get some stroke of luck and the weather slows the cases down I don’t know, it just seems inevitable at this point.

Then last data I saw was wrong... Italy 25% elderly, US 15%.

Some connected sources have told me that New Orleans is considering an Italy-like "lockdown" that would commence at 5 p.m. on Monday. Not trying to start a panic or guarantee anything, but take it for what it's worth.
I think it’s unlikely, unless things are a lot worse than being reported.
The first city based lockdowns will be in Washington/Oregon IMO.

I mean assuming the city as advisors analyzing data the same way as you and Wawa, it seems like Nola will soon be leading the nation in per capita cases. We’re heavily at risk to be the most like Italy if we don’t act now

I've never seriously thought we'd see lock downs like overseas but the last few days are starting to change my mind. One thing that is interesting is that in Europe and China we've typically seen one massive cluster (Wuhan/Lombardy) and the rest of the provinces would more or less "escape" with only smaller outbreaks. It seems here in the states there are more than one cluster forming and across different areas.

The difference might not be factual.
My number is based on US citizens over the age of 60.
How is your number designed? What is “elderly?”

You also have to consider who is running the ship. Latoya seems to do the unexpected, over react, and shoot from the hip.
I.e. banning all tandem floats

I found over 65 population in the US is 14.9% and Italy is 23.8%.

Almost a given in my opinion. The question of containment is gone, and the hope for case tracing serving as a mitigation mechanism is almost gone as well.
I really hoped I was overreacting to the business planning I’ve seen.

I am personally preparing on the assumption we are going to be given a directive to stay at home for the month of April and I’m making sure mine are covered in event it happens.
Jesus. I was hoping 2 weeks would be enough to get our arms around it. There’s a real concern within businesses that it onky takes 1 employee or customer to shut everything down. They almost need this to be a state or federal directive that includes payment of employee wages in order to survive this with loss of sales, too.

Note that I don’t nesscessarily think it will happen because the situation warranted it, but just like the aftermath of the NBA suspension, you’ll get a domino effect of pressure from the optics of it.
I think pressure is what lead to the county shutdowns we’ve seen in DFW area through April. Im hoping we can take a step back from the ledge on any more long term (month+) shut downs but that seems to be the way things are moving.

The federal courts will be attacked with suits seeking an injunction because technically it’s unconstitutional.

According to google search

Even in the case of a national emergency?

I don't think it will be as severe as Italy's current lockdown. They went in stages. I wouldn't be surprised if you saw something like Hoboken just did and suspend the sale of alcohol in bars and possibly institute a curfew. Basically measures to push towards people from gathering in large groups.

It's not unconstitutional.

Same thing I just posted... Although I said 15 and 23... So slanted more toward it being closer than it actually is.

Americans travel a lot. Look at the images from DFW and O’Hare tonight.

I will have to go read the act more thoroughly but I seriously thought it can be done when a National State of Emergency was declared.

Not compared to the rest of the world though. If you look the number of Americans with passports is low compared to other countries.
