This may be a dumb question....Are these tests testing for the specific wuhan flu covid- 19? Or are they broad spectrum tests that identify multiple types of corona virus?

The worst thing I've seen so far is that a lot of people think we'll end up like South Korea magically because of our healthcare system or other dumb reasons. They ignore the painstaking efforts that SK has spent to contain it. They'll be completely dumbfounded when we end up with places in America that resemble the Italian situation.
The poli board collective mindset is the perfect example of the ignorance and denial of the situation. Saying it's worse than a a cold and should be taken seriously is tantamount to hating Trump and being a fear-mongerer over there.

We took those precautions with China, but still have multiple direct commercial flights from Italy coming here every day.

Yes, Europe was the Achilles' heel for the US. We blocked the front door to keep China out but left all the other doors and windows open to Europe. This is what happens without a coordinated global response when air travel is so cheap and easy.
