I am wheezing and can't breathe at all because of the pollen. If this virus gets near me I am done. Does life insurance have pandemic clauses? It will suck if my husband has to pay out of pocket to bury me.

Is it not a no-brainer to avoid shite like cruises at this point? I mean seriously. And ESPECIALLY if you’re elderly?

I know an older guy that flew over to Vietnam just a couple weeks ago.

Was like "WTF dude?"

Idiots like this are why containment is impossible unless we completely shut down all non-economic incoming travel, which isn't realistic.

Not so worried about catching it now, but just knowing the symptoms and treating when I get it.

I guess I should read up on symptoms/treatment since I've mostly been not paying too much attention to it. Fly to LAX and spend 8 days in L.A. next week. Half the time for leisure, but the other half at a conference of 2000+ people from all over the state of CA.

Unfortunately, while I understand it is a different situation, this attitude is what led the hospital employee to attend an event instead of self-isolating. It’s okay to have a healthy level of fear and exercise caution. I’m not saying deadbolt the doors, but if travel is not absolutely necessary right now, don’t do it.

Of course, as you say, he didn’t travel to get it. Some things you have no control over. I’m just dumbfounded by the number of people who are still traveling without any necessity, though.

Pretty solid bet your conference is going to be canceled.

They sent out an email a few hours ago saying they will not be canceling it

Thought I’ve never done it, I’d buy travel insurance for any trips I had to book.

And Jazz fest is a big NO this year.

ETA: No Jazz fest for me.

The North American Seafood Expo in Boston was cancelled. Was supposed to occur in a couple weeks. This is a massive trade show that takes up the entire Boston convention center.

The Arnold Fitness Expo in Columbus, OH is postponed, as well. It is a huge expo that is the biggest of the Arnold's series around the world. There will be no expo, but at least a few of the competitions will be held without a live crowd. The power lifting and strongman competitions are both still on.
Shortly after Arnold announced that Columbus was postponed, the Australia expo announced their Arnold's Classic show would still be going on as planned in a month or so.
Several competitors across multiple events have been ruled out due to being from areas or countries hard hit.

You keep blaming travel. This thing is already around the globe and not from leisure travel.

Knowing the leadership in New Orleans, it'll still go on as scheduled.

If we could get the entire country to just take two weeks off, shutdown travel and stay in their homes.....just two measly weeks.....I bet we could halt it.

Not realistic, though.

Bwhahahahahahahah

Think of no medicine or food source for two weeks. No power, sewer, fire, police.

This is the stupidest solution to the problem everyone keeps proposing

I don’t think you can definitively say that. There’s about 700 people that just got off a cruise ship that would disagree and a whole other boatload sitting off CA as we speak. Chinese tourists also spread much of this around the globe on the early stages while no one was able to screen or properly test. So yeah, leisure travel spread it and leisure travel is definitely still happening, no doubt with infected passengers on board many, if not most, flights and ships.
