He was already out of town when the news broke. At the bat mitzvah a couple days before he flew out.

The whole neighborhood is basically on lockdown now.

I was quick to pull this one out

NEW: California governor says Grand Princess cruise ship being held off the coast as a number of passengers and crew members have developed symptoms. Test kits will be flown to the ship.

Is it not a no-brainer to avoid shite like cruises at this point? I mean seriously. And ESPECIALLY if you’re elderly?

Then again, people try to ride out CAT 5 hurricanes, too. Not really surprised.

Surely he wasn’t out of town when it became evident that the risk was increasing with travel? I mean, where did he go?

Some people have to travel for work. Best response I can give to that.

He didn't catch it while traveling, he caught it while at home. At shul really. So, the virus came to him.

His neighbor has it; so unless you plan to live your life in a way where you won't have contact with someone, even on the level of a neighbor, you will probably get this.

Their little girl is about the age of mine, young. Should be old enough though.

Can only imagine the number of contacts though.

No, actually it is the corona/SARS virus.

The symptoms are almost identical, the only thing different is the incubation period and the fact that an asymptomatic person can infect someone else. Both viruses are dangerous to the elderly as well as those with underlying health issues. The only difference between the two is that the flu has become commonplace and a fact of life while this coronavirus is new and therefore novel.

Has it been said what we're doing with the cruise ship in CA? I would hope we would have learned our lesson with what happened on the Diamond Princess.

I get it. I travel occasionally, but I can tell you I would limit it right now (and have). That said, not everyone can exercise that much control over their schedule, so I understand.

The hospital employee is the one that gets me. Just wow.

Looks like they’re holding it off the coast and flying test kits to it.

That's the whole point though. He didn't travel to get it. He traveled to potentially spread it.

You have to live your life and living your life (not even your business life) is going to run you into this virus.

Not so worried about catching it now, but just knowing the symptoms and treating when I get it.

A "recovered" patient in China died of respiratory obstruction 5 days after discharged

LINK

The patient is 36 years old, admitted into hospital in Feb. 12 and discharged as "recovered" in Feb. 26.

He died of respiratory obstruction and failure at the quarantine site in Mar. 2.

Before his death, the man told his wife that he had a dry mouth and felt so exhausted that he can't stand firmly.

That's a failure of the healthcare system. I'm not casting blame because the Chinese medical community is obviously still stressed, but this sounds like a person who would have been saved in better times.
