Honkus how is family in China holding up? Everyone still hunkered down and feeling well?

Saw a bunch of people sporting the Saints/LSU skullcap and sweater attire on Mardi Gras day. I told myself they dressed up as Honkus for the parades.

I refuse to do pot lucks... 3 people got sick out of a potluck for like 12 of us a few years back and I’ve refused to since then Nope nope nope
Yeah, potlucks are nasty for small groups. Imagine the crap made in bathtubs that gets brought to one for 40k people.

Yep, they are still locked down. Everyones healthy and seemingly good spirits, tho
Apparently there's only a few people authorized to go into the supermarket. They are given a list and come by once a week or so with groceries.

True. We have a potluck dinner after the Sunday evening service at my church the last Sunday of every month. I attended one and I make excuses everytime now because I am not a fan.

Do you feel like the communication you get with them is unfiltered?

Informative twitter thread that thinks this could have been spreading in Washington for about 6 weeks already.

This case, WA2, is on a branch in the evolutionary tree that descends directly from WA1, the first reported case in the USA sampled Jan 19, also from Snohomish County, viewable here
This strongly suggests that there has been cryptic transmission in Washington State for the past 6 weeks.

Updates in from SK and Iran.
SK - 3,686 active cases, 30 recovered, 20 deaths (+3 overnight)
Iran - 749 active cases, 175 recovered, 54 deaths (+11 overnight)
SK is probably producing the most accurate and open data set in the world. Iran... who knows what is really going on.

You need to walk in there and just kind of casually thank everyone for welcoming you back and in the middle of your return to work speech, start coughing uncontrollably.
You know, for science.

World Health Org and CDC were saying travel as normal. No big deal. Get your flu shot and wash your hands.

It likely means that they are all from a common source in China. There is a chance of local spread but that would be a much lower chance and harder to tease out. There have a been a number of lengthy discussions on the data on Nextstrain LINK elsewhere and I've posted on it a couple of times but now buried in the way back of this thread. It would take a good bit more data and a detailed dive into the genomic epidemiology to confirm undetected community spread for 6 weeks.
Also, the paper on github tracking ILI data was updated yesterday and there is still no significant sign of widespread cases of COVID19 in the US - LINK

SK mortality rates are close to the mortality rates we will see in the US due to the similar quality of our medical systems.
