He DID NOT claim the virus is a hoax tonight. He claimed that dem claims about his admin’s handling of it was a hoax. Important difference.

Trump is a liar, a terrible president, and a terrible human being. The claim that he's done a bad job of preparing for and responding to this threat is not a hoax. It's true.
But it's not true that he called the virus, or the danger it poses, a hoax. That's a misinterpretation.

We will see reports of like 2-5 more community based cases over the next week, then the week after in a 48 hour span it will go from like 5 to 500.
That’ll be a feat, especially given that each test requires multiple slots.
Gentlemen, start your thermal cyclers!

Take it to the Poliboard. This thread does not need to devolve into political bullshite.
We rely on our government in times like these to produce facts. Typically this wouldn't be political. Now? Yeah.
That said, I'll stay out of this thread because I appreciate you, and probably others, wanting to keep the thread on track for updates only.

Holy shite I just glanced over there. I liked that place and agreed with most of what is said there but this issue has opened my mind to what an echo chamber that is. They think this is a media conspiracy to get Trump and it’s all fake news
It’s crazy how people can see one event so differently

The funny thing is that it’s actually been here for weeks and we are arguing over semantics.

Been here over a month. The first few cases in Chicago and the likes were mid-January

I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he meant been here uncontrolled as opposed to the tracked cases up front.
But anyway....that’s the point. If this is hitting people hard, it wouldn’t be able to hide within a mild flu season so easily.
The only people who need to worry are the older crew, ~55-60+. That appears to be were most of the clinical deviation between flu and here is occurring, pending investigation of WTF this reinfection claims are all about.

Couple questions for you kind souls.
Read yesterday where the Mortality rate outside of china is 1.5%.....
1) hows this compare against a typical influenza season in the us
2) what is china's "reported" mortality rate this far
No reading 300+ pages to catch up...just cant do it sorry. My free OT time is currently dedicated to finding bribe material on admins to rescue the ronnie thread.
TIA

Edit: for your troubles

I’ve been saying that from day 1... aside from a few abnormalities like the doc in Wuhan, this thing has targeted the same susceptible group as the flu.
I asked earlier and did t get a response, does every country deal with widespread flu like we do here? e.g. 20k deaths and mass infections

The New England journal of medicine states this bullshite is no worse than the flu ??????
Posted on 2/29/20 at 6:51 am to Lsut81
Japanese think the number of reported flu deaths in the US are really weird and they don’t understand it. Their annual total is like double digits I think.
But that’s just because the US reports pneumonia and flu deaths together and Japan doesn’t report flu deaths if they are caused by something brought on by the flu.
So US are inflated and Japan’s are deflated. I guess it might be hard to know what the real numbers are because if that.

From a contagious point, it may be... we really don’t know
Same from a mortality rate, looks like it may be more than the common flu, but it’s no where near where the panic in this thread claimed it was 2-3 weeks ago.
Sounds like sub 2% mortality in developed countries and going lower.
Posted on 2/29/20 at 6:54 am to Lsut81
Yes.
Worldwide it’s attached to between 300k and 650k deaths annually
Average US death toll is around 60k though.

Reason I ask, and I’m no scientist by any means, but could the fact that most US citizens come in contact with Flu at some point in their life help build up immune systems to help fight this off or even squash symptoms?

Reads some of Scruffy's posts (He's an MD). Basically they're only testing the people who are really, really sick to get that 1.5%. In fact, lots of people come down with the virus, get sick, and then get well without ever being tested. Also, lots of people get the virus and are completely without symptoms.
So, if we tested every single person who had it, the actual mortality rate would be less than half of one percent. And probably even lower than that. Maybe as low as .1%. Which is getting down into common flu territory.
The biggest issue with this virus is that it appears to be highly contagious. And it may be deadlier than common flus and other respiratory pathogens. But it's not gonna wipe out the world.
Also: it likes it cold and dry. Not warm. Not wet. So where Beijing and Tehran and Moscow and Kabul could be hit hard, the billions of people on this planet that live in subtropical climates, plus desert climates, will probably not be effected.

I'm not saying there is nothing to this and there is no concern. I'm saying the entire hysteria is being concocted and it should be transparent to all.
Hysteria where? In Italy? In Japan? In China? In Iran? In Korea?
I live in PA. There is no hysteria. No one is walking around in masks. Grocery stores are fully stocked (no empty milk/bread shelves). No lines for gas. Everything is normal.
