So it’s pretty obvious Oregon and California have lots of cases right now
I agree. They don’t test people that don’t have a travel history or confirmed contact until they are in the advanced part of the infection.

I’m not sure what you want an example of?
There are 6,000 ICU beds in California. Do you think that’s enough for a population of 11 million if the percentage of cases that need critical care is 5%?
Yes. Like I said, given our awareness, how many critical cases can you imagine in California at any given time?

And it definitely got Hong Kong protestors off the streets and out of the news, did it not?
I'm not saying there is nothing to this and there is no concern. I'm saying the entire hysteria is being concocted and it should be transparent to all.
I think there is definitely some hysteria, but Hong Kong protesters don't seem like a reasonable motive.

Just heard an interview with the NYT Science and Health reporter that we have an estimated 75,000 ventilators in the country. We really need about 750,000 to be prepared for a worst case respiratory epidemic, per previous research.
We don’t even have test kits readily available, why aren’t we reaching out to the WHO for kits?

Yes, we have been through virus scares before, but none have gotten this far this fast. It’s not that hard to look at the rate at which people can get infected, see that people are getting infected in lots of countries from unknown sources, and infer that we might have a rough time coming up here shortly.
I feel like a lot of people want to blame the media looking for a story on their 401k going to shite, but if you can read between the lines here we are sitting on a powder keg.

Considering how many homeless/HIV people there are there, I’d say pretty high

It's not spreading quickly and largely not killing in the West. This panic is ALL MANUFACTURED.
I tend to agree with this. Given all the media coverage around this, even without widespread testing, individual ERs would quickly notice an usual surge in non-flu ILIs. (Scruffy have any comments on this?) Community spread in the US was going to happen regardless, esp. given that people are testing positive after completing quarantine. I still keep coming back to Singapore, 98 cases, 69 cleared, zero deaths and thinking that might be what we see here in the US.

It’s not about total number of infections. It’s about localized pockets of outbreak. It’s not easy to transport patients in critical condition. They mostly have to stay where they are at. That’s why Wuhan built a hospital in 7 days.
Regardless, I’m going to move on. It’s a hypothetical situation so now real point in beating it to death.

Our awareness is pretty good. Our compliance is pretty shitty.

So this was all concocted to get protesters out of the street in your opinion?

The MSM are so concerned about this because the hardest hit areas will be the dense population centers, which also happen to have a lot more democrats than the more rural areas. A pandemic that hit the dense population centers would affect Democrat voters disproportionately.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Two years ago we handled 300,000 more influenza hospitalizations than we're on pace for this year.
Are people seriously under the belief we'll have that kind of need here?

Key word.... Hospitalizations
That’s not critical cases.

In addition to Oregan being confirmed, Utah now has a confirmed case with Washington state as a potential

I understand your point, I just can't seem to come up with a practical scenario that generates the cases needed for big numbers and the shortage of hospitals.
I guess we'll know in the next few weeks - the most common phrase in this thread.

It’s a plot between the Dems and the Chinese to subvert the November election. Created clumsily in a lab and then unleashed on an unsuspecting populace. They want to whittle us down to about 500,000 globally.

So how do I remain un-fricked?

No. I'm saying there was some sort of outbreak - whether it escaped from a lab or was a food market deal, whatever, and Xi decided to take a short-term hit to end the HK thing without dealing with international outrage, so they whipped it up a little bit.
Also to maybe stick it Trump for the trade war thing, but that is likely as secondary concern.
