What is the economic loss of having another version of the Flu every year?
I'm not sure what makes one version ok and another version go crazy time.

Combinations of factors: rate of infection, potentially higher rate of death, and the fact that there are a lot of unknowns about it.

Cocktail of flu, HIV drugs appears to help fight coronavirus: Thai doctors
From what little I know about lopinavir/ritonavir, that makes sense for a viral infection like coronavirus.
Also worth noting those drugs produced favorable results when used during the SARS outbreak.

So where do we stand? Any further cases outside of China?
Seems to have slowed pretty damn quickly. Guess the bio weapon was a dud

Exactly. I thought that was obvious. Also toss in No Vaccine.

I haven’t been tracking the daily numbers outside of China, but China has 98.77% of confirmed cases as of now. On January 25th, 98.26% of the confirmed cases were in China.
We've had one confirmed death outside of China - the Philippines.
Thailand was the first country outside of China with a confirmed case on January 13th. That was 20 days ago and they're only up to 19 confirmed cases.
Japan has the most cases internationally with 20. Their first case was confirmed on 1/16.

Hey man thanks for keeping this info updated. This thread is actually more informative than those feeds the news sites put up. This is actual factual info and nothing else. Really great thing you're doing.

Haven't seen anything phrased like this since it started.

Good read even if it's the Daily Mail. The woman it's about is stuck back home in Wuhan where her Mother is dying of rectal cancer. She is in a different hospital probably with the corona virus. Her Father is in a third hospital, also with serious corona symptoms, but also with no formal diagnosis.
This one doesn't have any scientific stuff in it but it gives a pretty good 'man on the street' idea of what someone faces in her situation.

The flu hasn't caused cities with millions to be quarantined. Or a big shut down on international flights to and from a country.
Using only current death count of one virus vs another virus is not an accurate measure of crisis/emergency especially one increasing at an alarming rate. And that virus ain't done yet.

That's the novel/unknown part taking hold. Better to be safe than sorry.

True but it's better than just shrugging and say "I don't know." It also gives us some point of reference for comparison and tracking.

True. But to think that we shouldn't take corona virus seriously until it kills more people than the flu would be very complacent and irresponsible .
Let's say there's a chocolate candy selling completion. And you're projected to sell 6000 bars for the contest. That's a nice number. But let's say this unknown seller sold a few his first day. The 2nd day he sold 50% more. The 3rd day he sold 50% more. And he's been increasing sales everyday for 10 days. Don't you think you should pay attention to what he's doing?

"This Santa Clara County case is not related to the first case but they both had recently traveled to Wuhan, China," officials said. "She is a visitor to this county and arrived January 23 to visit family."
The woman has been at home since, except for two times to seek medical care. She has been regularly monitored and never sick enough to be hospitalized.
So not related to the 1st case and seems to have stayed self-quarantined (save for seeking medical attention).
