re: Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) ***W.H.O. DECLARES A GLOBAL PANDEMIC***
My dad has it.

65 diabetic. Has had triple bypass surgery and gastric bypass surgery.

The doctor said he had pneumonia in both lungs almost half way up on each lung.

His SPo2 was 95, blood pressure was good, and we tested his blood sugar which was good as well. fever hasn't been prevalent during the day so far. He's been around 98.6 ish range.

The three days prior he was running 99 during day and anywhere from that to 102 during the nights.

He's been coughing pretty heavily since we went to doctor. I think him getting out and about may have caused that to flare up worse. He's also had the aches and chills.

Said he was feeling better before we went to doctor.

We have him on prednisone, zpack, inhaler, and tuss pearls for cough.

Can any of you all put my mind at ease. I don't know what to do. It's very frustrating.

Also, he said his breathing has been fine, so that's encouraging.

I'm sorry, I know this must be very stressful for you.

So he was seen and they sent him home? That alone is very encouraging.

I would say keep very closely monitoring the situation. Have a low threshold for bringing him in for medical attention. Meaning....if he starts getting worse. Keep checking his vitals (sounds like you have a home blood pressure cuff and thermometer and finger pulse ox?)

Make sure he is staying hydrated, etc.

Yes, they said if he gets any worse he should go to hospital.

Yes, we have blood pressure cuff, thermometer, and pulse ox.

Well good luck and I hope he is able to rest and recover and get better without having to go to the hospital. But don't hesitate to take him (even if he protests) if he starts getting worse. Keep us posted how he is doing. My father has lots of medical issues as well and it terrifies me that he will get this and he already is stubborn and doesn't take good care of himself as it is....so I can totally understand your fear right now.

Glad his sugars are doing ok as well. You know he has to watch his sugars when he gets sick.

I'm praying he's going to feel better each day that passes.

He's a stubborn guy, but I pleaded with him to let me or mom know if he starts having trouble breathing. He said he would.

Welp, Scruffy finally caught it.

Cough for 24 hours, no fever, and now asymptomatic.

Out of work for 10 days.

Hopefully, everyone with relatives that have it have a course as uneventful as Scruffy’s.

Good luck Scruffy. Just had two coworkers go out with it so I'm monitoring my vitals closely.

re: Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) ***W.H.O. DECLARES A GLOBAL PANDEMIC***
Dad had a good day today.

His cough was noticeably less than yesterday. He only had one hot flash/chill in the early afternoon.

I checked his temperature 5 times from about 8am till 7pm and he never had a fever. Highest I saw was 98.8.

His spo2 levels, according to my device, were about 89/90. They ran lower yesterday as well, but like I said at the doctors office it was at 95. So I don't know what to make of that. I had him go outside for about 5 minutes and walk around. He seemed fine, and I checked his spo2 after and it was at 91/92.. so obviously the light walk helped.

Blood pressure was still good.

He ate three small meals today which is a good thing.

I hope he has a good night, and we can get a couple of good days stacked on top of each other tomorrow.

I'm praying he's actually on the other side of the peak. I suppose we will know tomorrow or the next day.

It will be a miracle if I don't catch it, but that's the least of my concern. Get my dad better, and make sure my mom doesn't come down with it.

I’m a PT in a hospital and work with a lot of respiratory patients. This is pretty common. Try to keep him walking a little bit each hour over the next few days. I describe it to the patients as taking their lungs off auto pilot and actually making them kick in. You’re doing great.

If covid and common cold are so closely related, a potential vaccine could wipe out both, then wouldn't the inverse be true that a "covid" test could be positive when someone has the common cold virus?

Visited r/coronavirus for the first time in months today.

Wow, that place is not nearly as insane as it was a couple months ago. People are actually starting to see reason there.

It certainly has calmed down somewhat. I started feeling much better about the whole situation when I started reading R/covid19 instead.

Thank you.. means a lot.

I don't want to get too relaxed, but he's still doing well today. No fever. A little cough, but he's been exerting himself more today.

You can tell it takes a toll with how weak he feels from time to time, but I think he's going to come out of this fine. Just going to keep doing what I've been doing.

He's more himself, that's for sure. Talking, sharp minded, etc..

Think I might be coming down with it, but that is a small price to pay for me.

Went to a bridal shower this weekend. At least 45 women in a cramped 2 room suite. Tables set so that everyone could sit next to one another. NO masks were worn. I left as soon as I possibly could. It's almost as if some people just think it's no big deal. My sis had it, so it is a big deal.

How much confidence should I put in my dad not running a fever without Tylenol for two days?

I don't want to get relaxed, which I wont, but I'd like to know if that's a big deal for someone that has it.

Scheduling Tylenol consistently has its negatives, major one being, you will never know if his fever is truly down or it’s just masked.

In kids, we recommend simply giving it when a fever is detected.

It gives you an idea of how th fever is spacing.

Fevers aren’t inherently terrible things, they just make us incredibly uncomfortable.

If you and your dad are comfortable, give it a shot.

Make sure to take care of yourself as well. And if you think you have it...get tested for confirmation and so you can take proper steps (regarding isolating yourself away from others, etc).

It's very easy to get wrapped up in caring for someone else you completely neglect yourself. Make sure you are getting enough rest, staying hydrated as well, etc.

At least you have access as well to a pulse ox so you can monitor yourself if needed.

Sporadic cough and pretty bad chills and fever thru the night last night. Took some Tylenol around 6am, no fever since 9:30 or so. Wife making me get swabbed in am.
