I mean, if anyone wanted to doxx me, they really could if they put in enough effort. So I've tried, especially in the last few years, to conduct myself here in TD as though I weren't anonymous.
But I'd still prefer not to give up anonymity, so let's just say that my business provides services to children.

Maybe I replied to the wrong person... But the person I was trying to reply to seemed to think that because the spread is currently slowed that everything is fine now and everything can go back to normal, which is not the case.

I never heard anyone suggest that flattening the curve would allow everything to get back to normal. The purpose was, and still is, not to overrun the healthcare system.

Well seeing as you don't understand either I'll explain it for you. Flattening the curve only works if the curve stays flat or starts to decline after. Easing restrictions too early can cause it to spike again, just look at Hokkaido in Japan. The curve needs to be flattened until one of two things happens. Either a vaccine is created or some sort of herd immunity can be achieved. Neither of those have happened yet.

Are you serious? That was the whole narrative from the start of the shutdown. Stay home. Save lives. The better you do this, the quicker we get back to normal. That was a lie of course. But a narrative all the same.
I’m not talking about the purpose. I’m talking about the propaganda. If the purpose is to protect the healthcare system, mission accomplished. So let’s get back to work. How is the system any more protected in two weeks? Or 8 weeks? I’ll tell you when it’s most vulnerable. When people start traveling all over the country going from their homes to their college of choice. Is that when we start opening things up? How about September when colds and flus start to spike again? No? Yeah... best wait till next spring.

You're right that a vaccine is a long way away. I'm not saying that we can't start opening up some things. I'm saying that the people who are suggesting we just open everything back up and go back to normal are morons who don't know how this stuff works.
For most diseases it takes between 80-95% of the population to be producing antibodies for herd immunity to be achieved. 80% of Louisiana's population is 3.7 million people and there are roughly 15k staffed hospital beds in the state. With the current 6% hospitalization rate in the state that's over 200k hospitalizations to reach that 80%. Now those obviously won't be all at once but you want to spread those cases out as much as possible so the healthcare system isn't overwhelmed. Which is why restrictions are still needed.

You can open things up completely but still have plenty of guidance and precautions specifically for old people who are 90% of your hospitalizations. It’s not that complicated.

thats total current cases from the second spike
they shut down again when they "peaked" at 18 new cases in a day 3 weeks after they lifted restrictions
