Question: If I die today of a heart attack but I have covid, I know the covid gets recorded BUT does the heart attack as well? If not then that's just messing with numbers.

My parish’s updated numbers:

April 21,2020.

Total cases: 43

Number of new cases: 0 (0 since April 16, 2020)

Total Number of deaths: 0

Number of new deaths: 0

Number of current hospitalizations: 1

Number currently on vents: 0

Number currently in ICU: 0

I’ve obtained sources in the two hospitals to get some of the parish stats. The sources corroborate once another.

Wish I could get ours. All I have is what the state gives .. I wish I'd kept track from day 1 so that I could guesstimate the number that would be recovered by now. We have I think 33 cases and 1 death but it was related to a recent surgery so said.

Luckily I only have two hospitals and some nurse and MD friends willing to share anonymously.

One person in the hospital. No new cases for five days. No deaths.

Hard to flatten a straight line. Also hard to achieve herd immunity at one new case a week.

My neighbor is a Dr here and the year have been instructed to call all deaths COVID if the patient had covid, no matter what they die from, and for a bit they were going to code all pneumonia’s and some cardiac stuff that way too

This is what they do for flu.

So you're saying that the first really confirmed death was before we actually thought it was?

And at the nursing home, we're not up to almost 50% infection rate, holding at 4 deaths and 5 in the hospital (reportedly still holding their own as of now).

I expect more positive cases to come for us.

I just wanted to make sure I was following -- when was the original first reported case OR did that just confirm what we knew?

We think out daughter had a mild case in mid February -- she's oos in college and just had a headache and could sleep all day. Low grade fever and a bad bad cough. No body aches really. Before I could suggest going to the walk in clinic she said "I'm not going to the walk in clinic". No body aches so I figured it wouldn't be the flu anyway. Her poor roommate had to endure the coughing. And it was a lot of coughing that Delsym and other meds didn't help.

Just talked to one of the RNs in our building -- looking like a 75% infection rate -- I pray that the deaths stay at 4 (which is sad enough).

Question about the pna that seems to be associated with it now -- do you think it was just milder cases then and that it mutated? And how were the hospitals not run over then?

Not questioning the fact that it was here just wondering how things that are happening now were overlooked or did it just evolve.

Supposedly, a friend with "inside connection to the DHH" says that majority of Louisiana deaths are from nursing homes and that the numbers being reported aren't accurate.

My question is would they really lie on their own LDH website?? I wouldn't put it past them.

It’s worth meationing that genetic tracking of spread still is in the Jan 15 timeframe. That was never based on a specific case.

The death in Feb 8 isn’t the opening of the floodgates of “it was here when ever I wanted it to”/“my family had a bad cough for a week in December so it must have been it!” that some people want it to be.

To put it in viral terms, that’s enough time for someone to plausibly come from China, infect one person, the virus incubates, that person infects another person, the virus incubates, then that new person infects another person, the virus incubates, and finally the third generation infects someone who has it for nearly two weeks before expiring.

As many as 3 layers of disconnect from the overseas infected individual is plausible without moving the day zero at all.

And this is the “evidence” that it was here earlier? When it just as easily could have been later?

There might be a few day push back down the stretch, but it wasn’t widely spread in January or here in the Gulf coast in December. Get off that horse y’all.

Everyone with a brain knows it was here earlier, but Facebook Karen’s and the media wont acknowledge until there’s a body count. This is your body count.

You are a fricking jackass if you don’t think the west coast had it in late December. The amount of flights out of China to SFO, LAX, and the likes is mind boggling.

A body who died on a time frame that could be 4 steps removed from the China case and still fit in the original estimate? That’s your hard evidence?

Again, it’s not based off of “feelings” or what “everybody with a brain knows.”

The strains common on the West coast had mutations which did not emerge in China until early January.

If what you said happened, the predominant strain on the west coast when they sequenced patients would be missing those changes.

NOLA.com reported 1/3 of deaths are nursing home. So, I think it is fair to say that the largest part is from nursing home but maybe not majority. Maybe just screwing up the wording.

That's what I otld her and that's what the ldh site says.

We have nearly 75% infection rate at the home where I work (currently remotely) with 4 deaths and now 6 in the hospital. Seeing some HIGH fevers for sure. As well as notes about not wanting to eat due to no taste/malaise and just want to sleep.

According to the MD who reported re: St. Landry Parish, 25/28 deaths were in nursing homes.

That Nursing Home model probably going to have to be redone.
