I don't know the ins and outs of how it works, but one of the declarations made here by the health director was dividing the state into 3 zones and ordering the hospitals within those zones to behave like one hospital system with regards to transferring patients and resources. It sounds like an impossible task, but that was the stated goal.

That sounds like a good way to spread the disease outward from "hot spots". It's like the opposite of a quarantine.

I live in north Alabama and when I took a turn for the worse the local hospital advised me to go to Birmingham where they are better equipped to handle complications from Chinese flu. May not be the same thing though.

Which is probably the true CFR as the military has mandated us to go to medical if we are running a temperature of 100 degrees or greater. If a military serviceman has COVID-19, it's almost a guarantee that they will be properly diagnosed.

Total overreaction.

not quite the same as an equally capable hospital sending you to another one

it would be more like Huntsville hospital accepting UAB transfers because UAB is full and Hunstville is empty

How would you say the age demographics of the US military compares to the general population?

Gotcha. I figured that's what you were talking about. My bad. My local hospital said that Birmingham would be better suited to treat my illness so I took an ambulance ride an hour south to Brookwood medical center. Could have went to UAB but I had positive experiences at Brookwood in the past so I chose them.

Using the USS Roosevelt as a reflection of the actual CFR is ridiculous. Young, healthy Navy sailors are not reflective of the American population. The Diamond Princess had a CFR of 1% with an elderly base, so I'd assume that the actual CFR is going land somewhere between the 2, probably between .5-.6%.

Not all hospitals are critical care facilities and not all hospitals can manage those patients.

The ones that are hemorrhaging money are the small town hospitals.

The ones that serve a smaller purpose as an emergency center and for basic care.

Those are the ones that are going to be destroyed by this, not the critical care hospitals or large city hospitals.

We have literally over a hundred big city, major capability hospitals that are hemorrhaging money from this because they're seeing no patients. Furloughing and firing clinicians in some of our biggest facilities actually.

All over the country in our biggest cities (We aren't in New York to be fair). This is crushing to hospitals of all shapes and sizes.

It's the situation at the home where I do consulting. After the original positive test, they tested everyone who was on her hall.

We had the same happen. Now up to 24 positive cases with 2 deaths. In just over a weeks time.

The average age of the US military is 32. The average age of the US is 38. There is also much less morbidly obese people in the military, but there are people with hypertension and more smokers than the general population. Military also doesn't have kids or old people which are the least and most susceptible. They caught the asymptomatic cases on the Roosevelt which was 60%. They are not catching all the asymptomatic cases on bases so there are probably twice the total cases on bases. The military would have a total fatality of .15% to .2% including asymptomatics. This falls in line with multiple studies that have put the total fatality rate between .3% and .7%. Or a 99.7% to 99.3% survival rate.

National peak capacity projections way down again, death projection goes up however.

Assuming we're on pace for far fewer cases, but we've had some poor outcomes raising CFR, thus raising that projection.

I guess that's good news with respect to opening things back up regarding peak resource demand.

Sucks about the CFR/deaths though.
