JFC. Read my post in the context of what I responded to. The guy is touting 10,000 out of 7 billion as not being a big deal, as if the death toll isn’t rising.

You think 10,000 deaths out of 7.7 billion people is a lot of people? Not to mention the more than 88,000 that have recovered?

Set here and looked at deaths in USA for previous pandecmics:
Asian Flu: 116k (1957-1958)
Russain Flu: 100k (1968-1969)
H1N1 flu: 13k (2009)

There is nothing to justify the level of fear and panic being spread. It will spread and we will survive. This is not smallpox or Spanish flu. Does it suck, yes. Is there a need to try slow its spread and allow our healthcare to handle it, yes. Should we live in fear millions gonna die, no. Running the numbers in USA shows about 15k without treatment.

Yeah! Especially with a trash healthcare system they have. They are still having problems with the disease. A huge country like that with poor hygiene and standards. That virus is widespread over there and the numbers are laughably underreported. They are trying to build an image of how they are special and beat the virus while the rest of the world is still struggling. Nothing but a bunch of lies.

Darth, you're either taking china at their word after they lied about human to human transmission or you're advocating for our doors to be welded closed.

It’s not the current number that makes people panic. It’s the unknown number 3 months from now.

It absolutely isn't. 20k wouldn't be. Hell, 100k globally before it would be really serious, IMHO.

We don't have any perspective any longer. I know war is probably the wrong analogy, but in war it is mainly (not exclusively) young men who bear the burden of dying - just the Soviet Union - in the approximately 1500 days they were in combat with the Axis powers, they lost so many they can't count. They have 6 million unidentified bodies in mass graves. That's 4k per day. High estimates put their global losses (military, non-military, disease, famine, etc.) at over 25k per day (for 4+ years).

Another sobering stat: Out of the boys born in the Soviet Union in 1921, only 1 in 5 was still alive by the end of 1945.

Ok. Coronavirus reaches 1000 deaths in a day like 3 times faster than swine flu did. Get ready. It’s slowly speeding up

10,000 out of 7 bil is statistically 0%.

It’s absolutely no big deal.
