re: Cops like this are the reason we're dealing with the things we are

Law of averages says that some cops will be power hungry dicks. I think most are decent people though.
I think most are decent too, but there is a significant portion that aren't. Given their authority and the benefit of the doubt in the eyes of the courts, even 5% being complete shite heads is a problem.

I agree with Scruffy.
What we need to do is pass federal legislation that cops can only carry a .38 Special six shot revolver with six extra rounds in a slow to load pouch and a 36” baton. No body armor, no Tasers, no pepper spray, helmets or rifles. Plus we should only allow a maximum of three officers to respond to any one call and one of those officers has to be a female minority handicapped American Indian Eskimo military veteran with a PhD in Social Work who votes Democrat.
If the non-militarized police run into a body armor wearing thug with an AK-47 who is hell bent on killing them then oh well. I mean they signed up for this right? Important thing is that people can rock themselves to sleep at night knowing the police aren’t “militarized.” Of course, when people shoot up schools, churches or Scruffys hospital we will just have to accept the losses that likely could have been stopped with rifle toting and heavy body armor wearing police. Juice is definitely worth the squeeze.
It's pretty much an arms race out there.
Bad guys increase their capabilities, LEO responds likewise, leading to bad guys upping the ante, and LEO responding in kind....round and round we go, where we'll stop nobody knows (it will never stop though, started with sticks and rocks, up to dirty/bio bombs and IED's so far).

The equipment they use is a very small part of the "militarization."
The training or lack thereof given the equipment is the problem. Guys like the officer in Arizona are the problem. If you're running around cities with "combat" sunglasses on, you're probably part of the problem.

Why not just cuff the guy. There was no point in two cops sitting there calling out square-dance moves that were conflicting. Had he been told to put his hands behind his back and wait for the cuffs, all this could have been avoided.

horrible old Arizona incident, but it continues...america has become police state
police checkpoints on the road and waters demanding your papers
small town cops with military weapons and vehicles
SWAT teams delivering warrants for non-violent offences
no-knock warrants
and conservatives, supposedly believing in limited gov't, have made it all possible

If they were decent, they would not almost universally support cops in every shooting. Cops are bad people as a group with a minority being GREAT people. When the chips are down, they support their bros, right or wrong. no decency in that.

Now show us videos of the million or so who did their jobs yesterday

Exactly.

While I do agree, can you post more of all encounters between LEO and suspects, where weapons were used and why. I'm fairly certain the tide will turn in the other direction. Projecting one scenario doesn't define the other 99 where a LEO is in danger.

I agree with you. That doesn't take away the publicity that goes along with incidents like this that create the shite stirrers. I think some of you are missing the point.

It would be a little easier to stomach of LEO didn't support shite like the OP. You seldom see them criticize the actions of their peers. It's always something like "put yourself in his shoes, you never know what you'd do, he's got a family he's trying to get home to as well, etc"

The occupation as a whole needs to be readdressed. It leaves the door wide open + lures in bitter, mindless individuals without the capability to make the decisions they are given the duty to. Most are not attracted to the position for the goodness of society, but because they have childhood history of bullying/being bullied combined with lack of alternative goals
Posted on 7/5/18 at 9:45 pm to slackster
Morality dictated this officer's choices. Or poor training. Nonetheless, why would you post this encounter, and maybe a handful of others, where the officer was wrong? They will answer a day.
What about all the others that were killed that you failed to respond about, like other officers, whites, blacks, Indians, and others you apparently muted. I'm looking at stats from 2007 - present and it looks like we need to worry about black citizens rather than law enforcement agencies. I'm not racist BTW, going off data. You can pull it off any government census site. Just relating data.

Sorry, I'm trying to post more to seem more favorable to get in a Fantasy Football League, and I hit your post. I agree that there should be a heightened accountability for all law enforcement officers, but I have to defer to stats.

've always supported LEO's 100%, but this is just stupid.
This is what we are forced to hire now. No one wants that job anymore. It used to be a honorable job but now everytime a cop has to bring down a crack/meth head the View wants to give out their address.
Now we're forced to hire idots like this because no one wants to be a police officer anymore
