He then tried to arrest a drunk,

can a police officer off duty, while under employment of a private business arrest an individual who is blocks away from the business where he is employed??

I dont know the answer to that, but it seems like his employment would present a conflict of interest to his duties as a public servant.

maybe one of the board lawyers can chime in.

BTW I agree it was a good shoot. I just dont think the security guard playing dress up should have been playing cop at the same time.

That's pretty stupid.

Why is this stupid? They are correct, put down the camera and help the cop. All they had to do was grab one arm and the cop could have gained control. Typical sheep-pussy behavior of the bystanders.

he was offduty, working as a private security guard.

he was a security guard for a hotel...not a public servant.

He can still arrest someone who is in the act of committing a crime. That has no bearing

This board's collective head will explode when someone stands their ground against a cop.

he wasnt just offduty...he was in employment of a private business.

nevermind many police departments actively encourage offduty officers to avoid such incidents...due to liability, and his arrest powers dont really exist until an ON DUTY police officer shows up. He has now exposed his employer, the hotel to liability in his need to be a supercop to stop a drunk walking down the street.

what a guy.

The guy wearing a cop uniform observed the guy committing battery on a cab driver. If he observed a bank robbery should he not act because he was on a security detail?

So if an off duty cop was witnessing an armed robbery of your business across the street from the hotel he was providing security at, you wouldn't want him coming over to stop it.

Look man, I bash cops all the time when they frick up. This guy didn't frick up. In fact, he did the right thing.

As I read it he was apprehending a fleeing suspect after police had been called.

we arent talking armed robbery

we are talking about a public intoxication charge.

You couldn't be more incorrect.

Where do you get this crazy information that you spout off as fact?

Read man read, he was responding to a battery on a cab driver as well with this guy. You clearly have an agenda as you are not even talking about what happened

Stopping someone and arresting them are not the same.
