He could of kept doing what he was doing until backup arrived.

There was no need to escalate the situation.

That cop has to live with the fact that he got man handled and his only resort was his pistol.
I have been bashing those cops in the other thread, but this guy did everything he could do.
Pretty much this.

What did the fireman do to be under arrest?
Posted on 2/28/14 at 3:54 pm to Golfer
I'm not sure how easy the thought process is and how calmly and well thought out your decision can be made as you are sleeping into unconsciousness from a beating

here's an idea...don't try and fight a police officer

No he could not, he said he was about to black out from the guy beating him in the head and trying to suffocate him

Cop was off duty when this happened as well.

Haven't seen that. All I saw was report of an assault on a cab driver, which could mean a whole lot of different things.

That he would have to get more physical in order to get the guy to stop resisting.
Don't get more physical if you aren't sure you can handle him.
quote:What is so hard? The cop was trying to cuff him, the guy was resisting, then the cop made the choice to knee him. The cop made that choice knowing that it could escalate the situation.
Wat? You make zero sense whatsoever.

No, the guy resisting arrest ________________ and then punching an armed police officer in the face repeatedly did that.
Fill in the blank. It went from resisting arrest to getting getting pounded in the face because... of the choice the cop made to knee him.

And?
Not sure what KC's policy is for off duty police officers in uniform. It varies from dept to dept.

The guy wasn't beating him in the head until the officer escalated the situation.

Bruno reportedly punched the cab driver several times…
cop was on a detail at a local hotel.
fire fighter was noted as being off duty

The guy was being arrested for assaulting someone. Unless you know that the cab driver kneed the guy in the head which escalated that situation, how can you say the guy wouldn't have done the same thing without the cop kneeing him?
The drunk was violent. He didn't need any reason to pound the cop. He just needed the opportunity.

I don't understand? What do you believe was the miscalculation?
The cop kneeing the guy and not being able to handle himself after that?
Or the cop kneeing the guy and not thinking it would escalate?
Or something else?

Yikes.
In the situation the cop ended up in, he was completely justified using his weapon, IMO. But if you got a report of a violent person, why not attempt to subdue him with backup or a tazer/pepper spray?

LOL did you watch the video? The guy wasn't at all being violent towards the cop until the cop kneed him in the head
