Cooped-up New Yorkers are flooding lawyer phone lines with divorce inquiries — with an avalanche of filings expected once the courts re-open.

“People are realizing that they can’t stand each other,” said Manhattan lawyer Suzanne Kimberly Bracker, who like many in her field has already seen a coronavirus divorce uptick.

“In the middle of the night I got a call from a client who now realizes she has nothing in common with her husband but the children — and how he knows nothing about the children,” Bracker said of a marketing executive she reps.

“And she’ll be damned if she spends the rest of her life with him.”

The crisis is throwing couples’ existing differences of opinion into high relief.

Mendel got a call Friday from a wife who has suddenly discovered that her husband, from whom she is separated, is basically a coronavirus truther. Trouble is, they have kids in common.

“The father does not believe this COVID-19 situation is as serious as the media is making it out to be,” Mendel said.

“So when the child is with him, he’s not using any of the precautions… But there are no court orders [right now], so it’s the Wild West.”

There’s an added financial incentive to filing as quickly as the coronavirus clouds lift, and the courts reopen, notes Beslow.

On the day a divorce is filed, the value of some of a spouse’s most valuable assets — including their business and any self-managed stock portfolios — is basically set in stone.

So it will make far better sense, financially, for many spouses to file for divorce before those stocks and businesses start to rebound post-coronavirus, Beslow said.

“That is clearly on some peoples’ minds.”

Basically shows people live lives too busily to really know each other.

wonderful.

a fun side effect of our nation wide quarantine is that we'll see increased divorce rates and an uptick in single mothers because we've empowered them via our taxes.

I think it's more they do know each other and that's why they busy themselves in other ways.

There are parts of people that their SO doesn’t see until major crisis or times of great uneasiness. Fear not, this is not who they are just how they feel at the moment.

To have a lifelong marriage or relationship, one will have seen this in their partner at some point. Easier to deal with when these emotions are not seen for the first time during this time of uneasiness.

Let little things go, talk to each other, coexist with another human being....it might seem hard but it’s really not. Perspective should be positive within a household, don’t assume things about your SO and don’t accuse anything without major proof.

The wife and I have had no such problems. I guess we got a headstart at being with each other everyday when I got to the point I couldn't work anymore last July. We just know each other as far as wants and needs. Some just don't really know each other enough. It also helps that we have been together over 25 years. Some just need to learn acceptence.

On the flip side shouldn't there be a huge uptake in babies 9 mths from now? Are porn sites seeing a big increase in viewers?

Two most common reasons for divorce is money and difference in sexual drive.
Both are exasperated with the "shelter in place" mode.
Adding to that the "set in stone assets" for divorce filing timing is another added layer to the monetary point.

Human beings are an absolute disgrace. At times like these, you find out how much you cannot stand someone?

Salons are all shut down so they can't currently wear their mask. Most are getting desperate.
