I seriously doubt the LEAD engineer for America’s premier and most visible national program in the 1960’s was a woman.

you'd be surprised at some of the cats behind the scenes, once you get to a certain level of genius and are able to harness that intelligence you get to skip a few steps and make your own rules
I remember seeing pics of some of the NASA engineers during the shuttle hay day, bunch of long haired, van driving, dope smoking, hippie freaks

worked with a guy last night that was "helping" his daughter with her algebra homework, she sent him a pic of the problem, he googled it, took a pic of the solution, and sent it back to her, tell me how she could possibly be learning anything, but the kid probably has one of those 7.5 weighted GPAs that all kids seem to have these days

They were totally behind the scenes, my Dad was a lead avionics engineer during the Apollo program. The only ones to get face time with media or even real recognition in those days were the program managers.

The thread title is not correct. She was not NASA's lead engineer on the program, but a lead engineer of a particular project. Big difference
