I won't say "RIP."

I still give spies credit no matter what. It takes some balls to be a spy.

So does a suicide bomber. You give them credit too?

ADX Florence is no joke.
ETA: this guy is like the most high profile Cold War spy found on US soil right?

Read the book about him. I got the impression (from the book) he wasn't the greatest spy. They caught him.
Edited to clarify I meant the book gave this impression. I had my own opinions that have been forgotten.

I went to college with one of his kids, who was a year older. The whole thing broke during my sophomore or junior year. Had more than a few "new students" who showed up on campus sniffing for info. It wasn't a big school so they were easy to spot. His son had solid friends who took good care of him. He was a nice dude and was really proud of his dad, we all felt terrible for him.

The caught him after he'd been spying for 20+ years. He was either a good spy or we have abysmal counter intelligence operations. Probably a combination of the both, but it was amazing that this guy carried on his treasonous activities for so long.

Wasn't he in charge of catching himself. It's a lot easier to be a spy when you're one of the spycatchers.
We should have executed him anyway. Good riddance.

At Hanssen's suggestion, and without his wife's knowledge, a friend named Jack Hoschouer, a retired Army officer, would sometimes watch the Hanssens having sex through a bedroom window. Hanssen then began to videotape his sexual encounters secretly and shared the videotapes with Hoschouer. Later, he hid a video camera in the bedroom connected via a closed-circuit television line so that Hoschouer could observe the Hanssens from his guest bedroom
What a great friend
