Well there is nothing north, you are still paying summer beach prices east, so where else do you go that is a reasonable drive with things to do & available, affordable lodging?

Do people really think Latoya decides contra flow lol

I think it’s realistic to expect that the mayor of the largest city in the state has incredible influence on those who make the call.

If she declares a mandatory evacuation, she forces their hands and contra flow is more likely.

It’s an evacuation, not a vacation. Don’t give a frick if there’s “things to do” where I’m going, I’m not sitting in that traffic.

That’s a cool story and all and I hate LaToya in a bad way. Still doesn’t change the fact that she has almost no powers in deciding about contra flow

Contraflow or not people just need to be patient. It's going to be a parking lot regardless, thousands of people are trying to leave

I’m not taking up for teedy but Cynthia in Jefferson just said the same thing. There wasn’t enough time to coordinate with other states and make it run smoothly. It’s a multi state effort not just Orleans parish saying “ok let’s do it”

For New Orleans, Cantrell said last night that there “isn’t enough time” despite the fact that there was 50ish hours between then and landfall at that time.

I swear, there are dried up dog turds on the side of the road that would make better mayors Than her

It’s a chicken and egg type deal. One leads to the other and vice versa

1. Define a “reasonable drive.” If people are going to Houston, there are other safe places that are a shorter drive from NOLA under normal circumstances - and certainly given the current traffic situation.
2. I would argue that looking for “things to do” is one of the least important criteria here.

I don’t think you, specifically, have been bitching about the lack of WB contraflow out of NOLA. But those who are need to consider how that contraflow affects folks in Morgan City, Houma, Thibodaux, etc. and the relative risk for the areas.

I don’t see how it makes a lot of sense to have contraflow from NOLA west through the projected path of the storm when you have other people trying to get out of that same path. East on 10 or North on 55, sure. But not on I-10 or US-90 West.

I'm sure they did a crappy job of explaining, but this is probably the reason.

It is a State issue. Sure the state police can't act unilaterally. Probably will turn into a blame game like before Katrina where one side says they didn't know they had to ask and the other side says no one ever asked.

Nope. No Republican President to blame this time. Of course Louisiana still electing Democrats for governor and mayor of NOLA. This will be a train wreck.

Texas, always has their shite rolling after a hurricane. They get their cities and towns back up and running in months.

It doesn’t look like Texas has been an example of good governance after what transpired this past winter.
