You're fricked. You're not getting a refund or the work finished. You can try hiring a lawyer, but you'd be wasting money and time. Even if you're granted a judgement against this loser, he'll never pay. You'll never see a dime of that money back. Here's what'll happen next. You'll call and text the contractor repeaditly with no response on his part. The contractor will deliberately not answer you back. He's most likely "vanished".

Exactly. I wouldn't invest in a lawyer unless you need to serve a cure letter. I'm bringing it to civil court otherwise and going straight to the judge.

What's civil court cost? $250? It really depends on the amount of money and if he feels his time is worth to recoup- and if he actually could.

Less than a grand. Imo not worth hiring a lawyer and going after when I still may never see the money. Although now I'm debating it since the first job is crap.

Roll roofing is cheap about $35 100 sq ft roll and is quick/easy to install. I would just roll a new layer over what the contractor installed and call it a day.

That is my issue and why I plan on talking to a lawyer, I paid him X amount of dollars to do it right and would potentially have to to pay another contractor X amount of dollars. If I could make that money back then the answer is obvious.
I know my lawyer has a 2500 retainer since I've always used him for other issues. Not sure what it will end up costing for something like this. Of course it helps my lawyer is well known and respected

You can win, but it will cost you more than you will ever see from him. The industry is full of dishonest assholes who can't be trusted to do even the most simple task without fricking it up or trying to frick you over. When you run across a good one, I'd suggest you use him exclusively.

Did you pay him? Did you keep the Windows? Why would you pay for anything not requested.

I see your side and his. I wouldn't warranty a job I didn't finish. He could easily say that you or whoever did the work after he was let go sabotaged the roof and caused the leak.

No. They only enforce license law and compliance and can only possibly revoke a license after civil action has been taken against a licensed contractor. They will tell you to contact an attorney and go through civil proceedings.

So update... I didn't specify but after the original contractor came we decided to do it ourselves and spent our own money. We have pictures and documentations of everything from the previous contractor.
The roof I've managed to stop leaking with some roofing tar I was able to procure from a roofing company. The original contractor still doesn't want to pay even after being contacted by a lawyer. Instead he is suing me for harassment and saying his job was completed and owes me nothing.
