Contract question? OT Lawyer?

I am contemplating if I have a legal case against my employer. I was hired to do a job in a city and purchased a home in that city. Due to massive changes internally, the job was moved to another site. I cannot afford to buy another house and renting is just as bad because the other mortgage does not go away. I have complained about this this to my boss for several months and it keeps getting brushed aside. Now, my employer is offering me a $1,200/month stipend to cover the cost...after taxes, about $900. This does not make me whole.
In your opinion, what is my best option? Ask for more money, force them to provide equal housing, etc?
ETA: do I even have a legit case here? The location is in MS so I am worried about Right to Work.

Instead of asking for "equal housing" which employers rarely provide and creates massive tax complications for both parties, counter-offer by asking them to gross up the stipend so you net the full $1,200 after taxes, or ask for a temporary relocation bonus/transitional housing stipend for a fixed period e.g., 12 to 24 monthsw while you figure out your long-term housing.

Remote is not an option at all.
The length of time is unknown. We are waiting on DHS to approve our petition to expand the programming and we have been expecting this for over three years now. We no longer believe it’ll be done until the next presidential election.

Hah. Okay…so what’s the magic number in your estimation? I don’t think $900/month is right. I cannot find a room to rent for that amount. I also feel taken advantage of being single. If I had a family and kids, the situation would be even worse.

Maybe not. I just didn’t know if there was recourse beyond negotiation between the two sides. I just feel screwed to have to split the bill on both ends not knowing when the change will be made. Living in limbo sucks.

The legal concept is promissory estoppel. But, I doubt buying a house was a term of your employment.

But, relocation was. I had to move to do the job. Whether renting or owning, housing is required.

I am confused by the question. Do you have a contract that has section(s) or language that speaks to the general or specific circumstances you are in?

The two job locations are about 80 miles apart. Because the work hours are 5-10 am and 4-8 pm, I cannot commute that far. It’s not just a cushy 8-5 workday.
Selling doesn’t help because at any time the job could revert right back to the other location. Buying and selling for a loss would be even worse.

Were you originally promised anything in writing in regards to housing? Was that part of your hiring or relocation?
Ultimately you can do what you want to push for more and they can let you go. It just depends on why you want
To push so hard to be made “right”?
Sounds like the biggest issue is buying a house before it was all sorted out, from what you have said I don’t see how that’s on the employer.
