Good! I hope the companies hiring illegals fold up.

The reality is Illegals will be run off and when welfare has the right constraints on it and it become assistance instead of a way of life, more workers will come back to the workforce. We created this failed formula and it will take time to cure it.

Yea, contractors will have a tough time making the mortgage payment on the lake house now.

Or pay to get them H2B status.

The visa programs undercut American wages, and they result in a large transfer of wealth out of the country, more than 200 billion a year as of 2021.

We're better off ending these labor programs, suffering the short term pain, and letting the market shift back to American labor.

At least with illegals the job gets finished and not 80% done.

Friends in the roofing, masonry, and shipyard business have all experienced similar. Don't hire illegals and you have nothing to worry about

You don't want a white or black guy nailing shingles on your house. 1) They are virtually impossible to find because the work is too hard/they don't want to do it and 2) the quality isn't there.

I’d love to see someone tell an HS senior, who just wants to game all day, to get a blue collar job. They are out there, but they are the token minority imo.

We get the quality of labor we're willing to pay for

I will be in Metairie tomorrow and need to go to Lowes on Vets and I'm betting the 2 dozen or so Hispanics that hang out in front of the parking lot are no longer gathering there to try to find day labor.

I'll post when I get back home around 12:30 as to what I find.

I think the impulse is still there, but we broke the tradition of family jobs (along with cratering the pay). If you grow up wood working with your father, it makes sense to follow him into the family business, or family trade.

Man. I wonder if you could have a crew of illegals and pay them cash every Friday. But then on thursday you have your friends dressed as Ice come and scare them off. Next week repeat and infinite free labor.

You have no idea how much of a margin there is on a roof job. Your rep at GAF doesn't either. There's a reason that so many storm chasers only do roofs and don't bother with any other repairs. The margins are huge and it's quick money unlike interior work after a storm.

Also, not all illegals work cheaper. They all know the market price and charge the same as everyone else so cheaper work from Mexican crews during a storm is a myth.

Hondurans will work cheaper but they are scam artist and do shite work.

Many people confuse Mexican crews with crews from further South and think they all work cheaply or do a good job.

Heard it happened to a Block Construction project in Lake Charles a couple weeks ago. Stop hiring illegals!

We had a white/black crew we used for a few jobs and it was probably the crappiest install we've ever put on. Let them go after one job. Guys vehicles broke down in the peoples yard, they were yelling and screaming at each other, one guy was working without a shirt on, and the left at 1:00. That was the only white roofing crew I've seen here.

You could offer to pay some white guys 2x as much as your regular crew and you still couldn't find a crew to do it. Our PJM's are hard workers and it's hard to get them to even do a roof repair in the Louisiana summer.

We haven't had an issue because we only hire insured subs that have their own LLC so they are legal. But I'm sure some of the crew members will start dropping off eventually.

Illegals are currently roofing and framing houses in Morganfield every day on DSLD houses. No one is bothering them.

1 bundle which covers around 33.3 SF is around 45 dollars or so.

Do the math. It's not the price of materials that make a roof 20-25 thousand dollars. There is margin in there....
