How else should they do it?

What else can I do other than run a background check on the guy I’m interviewing/potentially hiring? Passes a background check, has an LLC, licensed with the state, insured. That’s 4 more things I require than most any other contractor, who normally just hire the cheapest crew possible and just give them an address and say go, without any management.

Do you hire illegals? If so the backgrounds are invalid more than likely, and you know this.

quote:

Ahh yes the once every ten year hypothetical you might have to face

10 years??? That is a pathetic and dishonest attempt. No wonder you are justifying your hiring of illegals. You are part of the problem. I always have things with work at the house that I want to ask questions about what a worker is doing or not doing. It’s not just roofing, and in some areas it is not just every 10 years for roofing repairs. It’s not always an insurance scam looking to get around a deductible or showing up in neighborhoods after big weather events which you may know a lot about.

quote:

I can’t interview my subs employees. I don’t hire an electrician then do another interview with his helper. That’s his employee, not mine. I’m not being defensive, just trying to put it plainly.
You are jumping to a different situation after defending your own hiring practices with regards to hiring illegals. You know what’s going on with your hires and your subs.

quote:

Again, wouldn’t be an issue with my company anyway bc the project manager and crew lead is always going to speak English.
Then why even bring it up. Regardless of who speaks English in your crew most must be illegals.

Archiving and perusing your post history or even just doing word searches might come up with some info ICE can use for their next raid. This isn’t the sleepy Joe administration helping to bring you in more workers. They will be coming for your crew, and it will be fun to watch.

Once a project has been marked BY ice it's hard to get people to work it. We have 2 big commercial projects that are now idle. The owners are still paying interest on their construction loans but I can't tell them when we can get going again.

There are no Americans lining up for those jobs. Now if wages double then maybe some Americans will show up but I doubt they have the skills. But housing is way to expensive now so if we have to pay twice the amount for labor to build them then.....

the only drivers on the road seriously worried about being pulled over by the police are the ones who have broken the law.

Because their donors like cheap slave labor and make a lot of money on it.

Then its not lowering prices as claimed by so many

Had a family member involve me with their house building plans a few years back. We talked to 4 builders. 3 used "migrant" workers. The 4th was a good ole country boy that utilized kids he grew up with, their sons, and some family members. The migrant builders all came in around 420 to 430, with 2 of them exactly at 429K.

The all American crew came in at 412K. His sheet rock crew finished the entire house, mud, taping, and all on a single Saturday. Those other builders werent offering reduced prices, due to their cheaper labor. Thats a fact

The only migrants I ever saw on property were the sod crew, which was a Hispanic owned business anyway

Want to try that again?

With the well-thought-out points you’ve presented tonight, I’m starting to believe there are plenty of individuals capable of replacing the cheap labor we would lose by strictly enforcing immigration laws.
