We must be neighbors

I work from home & I cannot even enjoy it because my neighbors dogs bark all day long
Every car that passes, every time they hear my BACK door open, every person that walks down the street
They are home all day (retired) so I know they hear them
They take them in at night at least

ETA
Animal control has been called, it’s during the day so there is nothing they can do

Most people understand if you explain it to them nicely. They probably don't even notice the dog barking so much anymore.

Just edited after I saw other replies

They know they do

I was told go shoot the water hose over the fence if it bothers me

Other neighbors have complained & called animal control

Get one of those high pitched bark sirens. Works great. It only goes off when they bark.

1. Talk to them
2. Animal Control (Excessive noise violates nuisance animal ordinances)
3. Bark siren

Beyond that you'll have to get creative.

The dog bark silencer sounds like a great idea. I'd invest in that.

Had this problem in my first rent house in Baton Rouge. I used stuff two or three Tylenol PMs inside some wieners and toss over the fence every night. Lol! That got expensive so we started pouring our bong water into a bowl under the fence. Not sure it did anything but it sure was funny as hell!

A lady I work with had the same problem. She went over to talk to them about it.

Her neighbor got the dog and had no idea what to do with it but put it outside because it was overwhelming to them.

The lady contacted a friend that “re-homes” dogs and the barking dog went to a family that actually handle the dog.

The moral - go talk to your neighbors.

I have this issue sometimes. Talked to the neighbor a couple times but they don’t usually do shite. And she’s also gone a good bit (works in NOLA) and her son isn’t home sometimes. So one day it happened and I went in my back yard and looked over the fence and just lit into his arse yelling at him to shut the frick up and go inside. Must’ve been a good minute and a half. And he tucked his tail between his legs and went inside.

Now every time he does it (which isn’t as much) I just open my side door and he hears it and goes inside. If he doesn’t I just look over the fence and tell him sternly to go inside. And he does. Every time.

I’ve even had to go over there bc that a-hole was barking on Christmas Eve at like midnight and wouldn’t shut up. And she was actually home. So I rang her doorbell about 20 times in a row and then went to her carport when she didn’t answer the door. I told her she had to shut him up and she apologized and said she would take care of it.

Years ago before internet and before caller ID was very popular, my dad told me about his neighbor’s dog continuously barking and waking him up all the time. He said he waited until the neighbor was gone one day and went next to their fence a made a recording of their dog barking. He then periodically would call the owner in the middle of the night without saying anything and would play the recording of his dog barking over the phone.
