Ford is probably not going to cover a HPFP failure even if the truck is under warranty. Any evidence of ever having water in the fuel (and all diesel has some water in it) and you'll be footing the bill

I don’t even know what HPFP means

High pressure fuel pump.

The 7.3 was a home run idea by Ford. I might trade my cummins in for one in a few years once the 10 speed has any kinks worked out.

I’ve been trading them in around 50k miles. No problems yet

That’s certainly an option, only own them during their warranty period. You eat a lot of depreciation though.

Then if you live in the south a diesel will absolutely never make sense. The additional purchase price and cost of fuel for that short of time period with no mountains and small hills to deal with really don’t make sense for 50k miles.

I started looking at diesels for a used one and holy hell. They are high.
Prepare thy anus.

The cost/benefit of the fuel savings doesn’t make sense anymore when all the major truck manufacturers make a gas that can handle service duty.

Not as much as you’d think.

How much and what are you towing? Do you truly need a diesel? There is no substitute for their towing capabilities, but if you don't need it, then you're taking on very costly maintenance compared to a gas burner.
Modern gas engines have narrowed the gap in MPG and towing capabilities, and you don't have to deal with the stupid DEF and emissions systems. My buddy is currently spending $15K on his cummins ram with 125K for injectors, waste gate, and trans work!!

What about when a gas engine can drag 16k pounds up that incline without slowing?
A diesel is still happier doing it. Higher torque at low RPMs equals happier engine, more MPGs and longer transmission life.

A 2020 diesel would pull that hill at 90mph in that test if you held it to the floor like that

No one disputes this. You just have to pay to play for the luxury.

I’m towing a 12,000 lb skid steer not including the trailer weight. I haul it a few times a month. This is a new need for me so I have not had any issue towing what I needed with a half ton up to now. I considered the gas burner 3/4 tons but am concerned about fuel economy since I spend a ton of time on the Highway.

You pay a surcharge on any maintenance or repair on a diesel. When they are running right they are towing machines but they cost more. I used to tow my Jeep on a 16 foot trailer to off-road events with my F250. I would literally forget it was behind me on the interstate going 75 only to look in the rear view and be startled.

Sounds like a bunch of OT poors who can't actually afford a diesel or never owned one
Don't go gas. They get 8 mpg max. I had a 6.2 and jumped to a 6.7 ram.
Oil changes are double the cost of a gas one but you go twice as long on an oil change so it balances out
It rides like a whore compared to my wifes tahoe unless I'm towing something
It costs like 10 bucks to fill up with DEF and I ride about 3 months on a tank. If you can't afford that, idk what to tell you. It's like 10 bucks
I went with the ram because of the Cummins and it was a better price point than a duramax or powerstroke

No the gas engines haven't. They're gutless compared to a diesel.
Also all of my diesels except my current one have hit a few potholes and somehow lost a bunch of stuff so no DEF needed. I've got 50k on my new one and never had any issues with the emissions equipment.
Alot of people here just spewing what they hear with no experience with a diesel.

Get a gas burner. Unless you’re hauling shite everyday for Business there isn’t anyway to come out ahead on a diesel. The Chevy with the 6.0 liter will probably pull anything you have and is about as bullet proof as you can get.
I had a 2017 F250 6.7. I loved the Truck but hated the cost.

You need to factor in the suspension of the 3/4 or 1 tons vs the 1/2 ton. I hauled my 10k camper behind my F150 for a short while before upgrading to the F250. The super duty suspensions are made to tow and aren't affected by crosswinds or passing 18 wheelers nearly as much as the soft comfortable suspension found in the F150.
