I've been giving the idea some serious thought. I love my current job, but I want some extra assurance to make myself more marketable should I decide to move.
So you are considering going back to school and changing jobs based on What ifs and Maybes?
Whatever, bro

I thought that you were a P.E. or something? Get an MBA if you want to into management.

That seems very broad everything from accounting to a process operator.
What do you like to do for work?
What are you good at?

Youve got a Physics background and are considering attempting to become an operator?

Why put in the time to gain experience and advance when you can just go back to school and change careers?

Plant Operator requires a family member or good friend to get you job in most cases. Let's just be honest about that shite. Not as bad as in past but still nepotism city.

Physics majors are either really smart, really dumb, or high school teachers.
BS - Naval Architecture and ME
MS - Math, EE, and Physics
PhD - About to finish up Physics
He's an AP physics teacher, tutor, and PhD student.
Eta: The reasoning behind that is because he doesn't have his green card. All schooling was done here, so he's been on a student visa for the past 20 years. Once he becomes a citizen, he'll either keep teaching high school, or he'd be a shoe-in for LIGO

Any type of work that can lead to consulting opportunities down the road is a wise path to follow.

You can get an entry level construction management job with that engineering degree. No need to get a degree in CM.
