It’s not a question of whether or not it would work. It’s a question of whether or not it’s right.

Welp... might as well triple the congestion pricing since results are so great. Millionaires will be able to get anywhere they need to in minutes in their luxury cars.

I think this is going to be a slippery slope. Now that the current pricing has been a 'success', what's going to keep the city from doubling pricing for the sake of 'less cars on the road'? Also what else do you think they try this with in the city? Raise prices on subways and trains since now people are using them? Where is that $500mil going?

Just wait until they elect that socialist mayor. Then traffic will really slow down.

Why isn't anyone saying that this is just a ploy to allow the rich to drive where they like and force the poor to use longer, alternate routes? That would certainly have been the lead story with a Republican mayor and city council.

Yep, I don’t see NOLA building a subway anytime soon unless it is a restaurant that sells sandwiches.

Even if they had the funds, they cannot build underground there.

The streetcar system could be upgraded to modern trams that are much faster and practical, but the populace values the charm of the old cars.

Denver has a fast tram for example:

Yeah.

Fewer cars is better.

This was obvious.

The reason no one is saying it is that it's not true.

I would guess that everyone complaining about the effect on "poor people" and "longer commutes" have never been to NYC aside from perhaps Times Square with all the other tourists and have no idea how the city works.

The subway is actually a LOT faster than driving in traffic. I live in Clinton Hill Brooklyn right across the river from Manhattan. I can be in the Lower East Side right now in 15-20 minutes on the subway but it would take me around 40 minutes to drive if lucky and then I'd be doubly lucky to not spend more than that finding a parking spot.

"Poor people":

1) If any "poor person" drives to a job in Manhattan they circle in traffic for at least an hour to find metered parking and pay $40-50 during work while constantly taking work breaks to feed the meter. Or, pay $80-100 for a parking garage. If many were doing this and now the extra $12 changes their mind, it will probably really help them to save over an hour a day and a lot of money by taking the train. Not to mention that anyone choosing to circle for an hour to park is causing far more than their share of the congestion.

2) "Poor people" with a car that live in the zones don't pay.
3) "Poor people" with a business vehicle don't pay.

This is not about commuting to work.

What are precise examples of all these "poor people" who have been driving to Manhattan that now can't due to the $12 during the work day?

I agree 100% with your statement. All I'm saying is that if the current city administration was a Republican administration (mayor), the Dems would be screaming that it was a ploy to benefit the rich and hinder the poor. (Which would, as you have very clearly shown, prove to be a false statement.)

Driving is the worst way to get around Manhattan. Sounds like this cleared up the roads for those who really need to.

You mean it cleared up the roads for those who can afford it. Screw the poors who have to take extra or less safe steps to get to work.

And yet reality:

In a statement, U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy announced the federal government has rescinded its approval of the program, calling it "slap in the face to working class Americans and small business owners."

"It will be virtually impossible for New York City to come back as long as the congestion tax is in effect," Trump said in November as New York prepared to implement the plan before he took office.

It's a game to these guys. Don't participate.

Leftists the next day:

“Yaaaayy!! Tons of money from people just driving to work!! Pay up working people!! Fill our coffers!!!
