All one needs to know why the Southern states seceded is to read the statements of secession their legislatures issued when they declared their secession from the Union. You will find that it was in defense of the institution of slavery and their "way of life" (which was based upon slavery). If you stop reading the crap by Harry Turtledove and start reading serious history books, you would know this elementary fact. Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis and the other treasonous secessionists should have been hanged for putting the nation threw shear Hell for four years and causing the deaths of over 600,000 Americans. And they were just lucky that Lincoln didn't want that (mass hangings of the traitors in the South). And it's so sad to see the flag of treason being flown by ignorant rednecks when our nation is at war today.

If you'd bother to see my earlier post, you will see that I'm actually against putting up a statue of Marion Berry, also.
